hey look a fun history lesson!

I'm also imploring any artist or creator who saw my earlier post to please reserve judgment on this person because I don't have any reason to believe they acted in bad faith here, and I've told them as much myself.

That didn't happen in this case, but I feel bad for the person who thought they'd bought a character, went a few months getting art commissioned, and then found out they don't actually own that OC.

Scammers suck. I'm putting my ref sheets online so maybe image search will catch this in the future.

It would've been easier to represent yourself as an artist whose internet presence had just been erased than to pretend to be an active artist. This kinda sucks for everyone involved: in a situation like this, even the artist can take flak for something they had absolutely no involvement with!

I have no reason to believe this isn't the truth, based on how forthcoming they were, how sincere their apology felt to me, and the way their story lined up with other things. I know the original artist; they were not around online for some time last year. The scam happened during that time.

I've removed this post because I've been in contact with the person who was commissioning art of Lydia without my knowledge or permission, and I honestly think they're the victim of a scammer. According to them, someone some time back sold them her reference sheet pretending it was their own work.
