Recent developments in the Middle East highlight the importance of energy security for Taiwan. About 95% of its fossil fuels are imported. While most crude oil comes from the Middle East, other energy sources are more diversified, reducing dependence on a single region.
Taiwan relies heavily on imported energy. In 2024, about 95% of its fossil fuels were imported.
Around 70.3% of Taiwanโs crude oil comes from Middle Eastern countries. Developments in and around the Strait of Hormuz are therefore closely monitored, as disruption affect global supply chains.

As of December 2025, number of foreign residents in Taiwan has increased compared to the previous year. Most of this growth comes from SEA countries.
Figures include only people with a valid residence permit. Actual number of foreigners in Taiwan is higher when including other types of visa holders.

Aircraft sorties and median line crossings were lower.
