Proud of my great research group! This year is a transition year with many PhDs graduating and the typical postdoc turnover. I hope funding will allow us to keep the science going!

Today, I had the pleasure of sharing the role of external jury member with Mariano Campoy-Quiles during the PhD defense of Bram Bijnens from Uhasselt in organic bolometers for infrared detection. Congratulations to the new doctor and thanks to Koen Vandewal for the invitation.
Today we went for bowling and dinner afterwards. It felt so good to see the group enjoying some free time together out of the lab.
Congratulations to Dr Hasan Baysal! The 3rd graduate of the group and our expert in 3D printing and PEDOT:PSS aerogels!
Thanks to the jury members and the funding agencies . @giorgiomattana.bsky.social

Always great to meet my friend and colleague @giorgiomattana.bsky.social from @itodys.bsky.social who came to @kuleuvenuniversity.bsky.social to serve as jury member for the PhD defense of Hasan Baysal. We are enjoying Belgium beer diversity.
Congrats to Bokai Zhang, the second PhD student to graduate from the group. He worked on brush-printed organic thermoelectrics. The first PhD graduates are instrumental in building the lab, both literally and culturally. Thank you!

π§΅4/5 This work is a step forward in the co-integration of miniaturized TE harvesters and micro-chips. Although we demonstrated only energy harvesting (for now), this technology holds potential also for chip cooling.
Thanks, Milad Shojaeian and Prof. M. Kraft, for the collaboration.
π§΅3/5 Taking advantage of the built-in stress generated during sputtering deposition, we can move from CMOS-compatible 2D structures to elevated 3D structures, which are convenient for efficient heat harvesting/cooling as they enable a high temperature difference across the device.
π§΅2/5 Despite their high conductivity and power factor, metals are usually neglected as thermoelectric (TE) energy harvesters and coolers due to their high thermal conductivity. In this work, we demonstrated that metal parts can be engineered to balance electrical & thermal resistance.
π§΅1/5 I am happy to share our latest collaborative work in Nano Energy: "Stress-engineered 3D thin-film micro-thermoelectrics for integrated energy harvesting and thermal management". You can access for free for 50 days at:

Today we had the pleasure to welcome Prof Zheng Chen at @kuleuvenuniversity.bsky.social. He shared with us his impressive research at @ucsandiego.bsky.social in battery regeneration process.
Last week we hosted @kuleuvenuniversity.bsky.social and IMEC a Korean delegation from Postech EE. Thank you Prof. Jiwon Lee, @jangenoe.bsky.social, and the sponsor for the organization. I hope great collaborations come from this meeting!
We'd love to power small wearables with light! Please check our work on inkjet-printed organic photovoltaic cells β using the example of PM6:Y6 - published in Materials Advances pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...

1st reunion of the Bao group Alumni yesterday in ZΓΌrich! It is great to catch up with such excellent scientists!
Thrilled to welcome Prof. Yang Yangβs research team from CAS to visit our labs at @kuleuvenuniversity.bsky.social and exchange research ideas. It was great to learn about deep sea exploration using flexible sensors in China. Quite impressive!
Grateful to my group member, Isidro Florenciano, for representing the group and @kuleuvenuniversity.bsky.social at the ECT25 conference in Nancy last week. He shared our latest results on laser-printed inorganic flexible thermoelectrics.

Keeping nice traditions. This year, we celebrate the 600th anniversary @kuleuvenuniversity.bsky.social with the University Trail. 10 km to discover the beautiful Arenberg campus, including going inside buildings! Here a team representing the Department of Materials Engineering.
Congratulations to Sachin and Nastasha on successfully defending their Masterβs theses. Sachin worked on composites for wearable ultrasound devices, and Nastasha on inkjet-printed electrodes for organic PVs. Well done, both!
4/π§΅Right after, a person told me quite roughly that I was riding without a ticket. I could not comprehend where that came from! I was trying to pay, but the driver would not give me a ticket, nor did he offer alternatives. He just closed the door and rode. I couldn't get off!!
3/π§΅HOWEVER... on my last day to work, the bus ran out of paper to provide tickets! Unbelievable, right? While I was trying to understand from the driver how I could pay, he closed the doors and started riding. I was suddenly trapped!
2/π§΅I spent the last 2 wonderful weeks @upcite.bsky.social as a visiting Professor. I took the bus to go to work every day. It is written at the bus stop that you can buy the ticket from the driver, and so did I: cash only, a bit XX century, but OK...
