Nothing makes you appreciate universal healthcare (and other social programs) like having a child.

I have never spent so much time in a hospital.

I can’t imagine compounding the stress of a medical emergency with worry about how much it’s going to cost.

Hello from South of the border where we were billed $32k and responsible for $6k, combined with insane health insurance premiums and all the other costs associated with adding a +1 to your household.

I hate it here.

Healthcare in Canada is not perfect. Many people don’t have a family doctor. Non-urgent issues can face long waits.

But we’ve had overall very good care from pregnancy to delivery to follow-ups, check-ups, and emergencies more recently. I’m thankful.

Lloyd Axworthy: Feds care more about a trade deal than preserving our independence | Broadview Magazine The former foreign affairs minister takes on Carney's reluctance to challenge Trump's dominance

I forget which one of you linked this interview with Lloyd Axelworthy, but it’s some of the most substantive criticism I’ve read of the Carney government to date #cdnpoli

This is happening because the average American family spent $50 more on eggs over the course of a year btw

Fortunately Quebec is (alongside Atlantic Canada) the most anti-Trump part of the country in all the polls I've seen.

It’s cool that this generation gets to find out the answer to β€œwhat would you have done when we started interning the Japanese?” and β€œwhat would you have done when we invaded Vietnam?” and β€œwhat would you have done in Watergate?” all at the same time.

I think she made mistakes like not sufficiently distinguishing herself from Biden or doing as much media as Trump. She wasn’t as charismatic or inspiring as Obama.

Nothing that comes close to the generational embarrassment and disgrace to your country that is Donald Trump though.

US gas prices are definitely an outlier in the developed world

08.03.2026 19:08 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I must point out that gas prices in germany currently are 8.70 USD per gallon lol. I know the price is largely composed of taxes but it is truly insane how cheap gasoline is in the US, and how normalized it is to drive 80 miles to work and back every day

It’s profoundly weird to have β€œThe Troops” be this ephemeral, elusive concept that demands deference in all seasons no matter what.

It feels Prussian.

When transit is frequent enough, β€œI’m late because I missed my bus/train” does not really exist.

That’s why American voters chose Trump: the candidate of respecting women and standing up for Palestinians

They chose a fascist wannabe dictator over a mediocre Democrat. β€œImperfect” is an understatement.

They made this choice and they should own it.

They told me if I voted for Kamala Harris, the United States would launch a war in the Middle Eastβ€”and they were right!

You appear to strongly reject my judgement of people for their voting choices. Does this apply to active Trump voters?

Did they do massive harm worthy of judgement, or does Kamala Harris bare primary responsibility for their choice because she failed to convince them?

07.03.2026 20:36 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Does this β€œthe voters can do no wrong” attitude apply to people who affirmatively voted for Trump, or just to people who abstained?

Donald Trump *denied losing an election and tried to overthrow the results, including with an insurrection*.

If someone could not see how he needed to be forcefully rejected from your politics, that reflects badly on them.

The choice between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris was as obvious as it could get.

07.03.2026 19:28 πŸ‘ 8 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I just don’t look at Americans electing Donald Trump β€” who now attacks, threatens, and torments other countries, including my own β€” and think to myself β€œthis is primarily Kamala Harris’s fault, she was only 1,000 times better than him but she should have been 2,000 times better”.

β€œThe voters are always right” can be a useful fiction for candidates trying to get elected.

But it’s not true. Sometimes voters make dumb decisions. And it’s valid to recognize that.

(Especially as foreigners who didn’t get to vote in your election but still suffer the consequences.)
