I did a bunch of research for a story on boats and climate change that never came to fruition but if you're interested in a story on boats, insurance and climate change hit me up.

If I can ever eat again, I want to open a restaurant for anxious people. Our whole schtick is you can ask as many questions or tell us as many allergies as you like without judgment, and the menu has helpful notes like “we check the lettuce for bugs” and “don’t worry, the draino isn’t near the food”

There's a hauntingly beautiful irony in these morons thinking that carefully crafted American hegemony was actually weak and woke, and they would be the ones who would do Power and Dominance properly, and immediately bringing everything crashing down

I was wondering how long after “the death of the paperback” was announced that we would see someone trying to reinvent the concept of pocket-sized books. Took about 5 minutes. #LivingBookHistory

You are not going to get me to empathize with these grown men - Cavanaugh was 28, and Fox was 27 (they are 29, and 28 now IIRC)

You can argue they didn't know it was potentially criminal but even if what they were doing was legal it was steeped in bigotry. They don't get a pass on that.

You don't get to paper over the fact that they are bigots. They knowingly wanted to strip minorities and women of any historical representation. They killed projects simply because they had ethnic identities and genders attached.

That decrease has consequences! Things folks 75+ counted on vanished for my generation, things I counted on are vanishing for yours, my dear 30&unders. So please, know that the keys are there, we just don't know how to hand them down as well, because we had them handed to us over lunch at Grandma's.

fuck me for being this person, i guess, but public universities are a civic good and shouldn’t be run like businesses. and if you’re going to insist on running them like so, at least do some market research. students like their professors; they don’t want MOOCs taught by ChatGPT.

Correction notice from the New York Times reads: “A correction was made on March 13, 2026: An earlier version of this article described incorrectly John F. Kennedy Jr.’s religious affiliation. Mr. Kennedy was a Roman Catholic, not a “WASP” (an epithet used to refer to white Anglo-Saxon Protestants).”

This is one of the funniest corrections I’ve ever read

His whole life, Trump has always had someone else around to bail him out of the messes he creates: his father, Allen Weisselberg, the "adults in the room" in his first term. Now all those protectors are gone and he is openly begging for someone to save him from his own folly.

Mamdani is doing everything possible to maintain a principled critique of Israel that is not antisemitic. He will keep doing it, because he believes it. But the Jewish organizations like the ADL that have decided to go to war with him are making a mistake that will endanger US Jews for a generation.

Half of US broadcast network dramas are about cops Perhaps one reason why America’s national reckoning on police brutality took so long to arrive is because TV is conditioning its citizens to view cops as reliable heroes.

“Jews are overrepresented in the media.”

No, no, no, you’re thinking of cops. Cops are overrepresented in the media.

This is an honest question. The This American Life episode this week with the ICE whistleblower says that ICE agents were being told that they could enter people's homes without a judicial warrant in contravention of the constitution.

If your literal training lies to you, are you liable?

Existence of Mamdani in the media criticism discourse is so useful because it demonstrates what the media could be doing to Trump if they ACTUALLY thought that he was an aberrant threat to our Republic. Not that you need to do this for Trump but: You can just write negative stories based on nothing!

From personal experience, Northeastern’s rapid expansion was an administrative trash fire. My kid had a dozen swiftly rotating advisors over his time there, none of whom could explain graduation requirements or fixing problems with anything. Great teachers, awful administration.

The first thing he says when trying to define the American Dream is that he wants to be able to get married, and then the first "threat" to that dream he identifies is schools treating LGBT people as equal.

Yeah man, they want to be able to get married to the person they love and everything.

Steps in Trump war rhetoric:

1. We don’t have to play by the rules in war

2. We won the war

3. If you go by the rules I just made up we won

4. No fair
