Hawaiians? Are you kidding? Hawaiians can barely afford to live here with multiple jobs and side hustles, much less outbid the mainland for resources. Shit will be hard in Kiribati too but there’s no serious way to call Hawaiians “extremely rich.”
And that’s awesome. I’m for it. The guy who was working on infrastructure got pushed out of office and replaced with a guy who thinks affordability is a made-up word and sustainability is for pussies.
I’m not saying there will be. I’m saying that it’s a possibility if supply chains are sufficiently disrupted.
Hawai’i imports more than 80% of our food and there are restrictive laws regulating what we can import and from where. This could mean mass starvation here.

Explaining “gay” to my kids was one of the easiest conversations I’ve ever had with them. Explaining bigotry was much more difficult… but I still did it because explaining shit is 90% of parenting.
I drive an EV too but we won’t be immune just because we aren’t buying gas. Everything we consume is affected by the cost of oil, including food, electricity, medicines, and other necessities. Just because we aren’t pumping gas doesn’t mean we can shrug this off.
Having a really shit week and worn out from holding it together, and a friend dropped by with my fav iced passionfruit tea and a hug, and it was just the energy boost I needed to get through the rest of this day. 🥰

Same! I taught myself to read at 2, from the newspaper, bc my family sat around talking about the news and I felt left out. I also have memories I can clearly describe of places I haven’t been to since I was 18-24 months old. I’m still unfortunately obsessed with the news.
