Caitlin KALINOWSKI over X

I resigned from OpenAl. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together.
This wasn't an easy call. Al has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I'm proud of what we built together.

OpenAI amends Pentagon deal as Sam Altman admits it looks ‘sloppy’ ChatGPT owner’s CEO says it will bar its technology being used for mass surveillance or by intelligence services

Yeah, he amended it after the pubic outcry. His Quixote mask fell off, and what we see now is an opportunistic lizard face, hungry for more power. Enough isn't in his vocabulary.

Why Not Rearrange the World? Autobiography of Red by Anne Carson

Anne Carson is a master of the short sentence. Her intelligence infuses her work, along with a heavy dose of playfulness, and just like that, she rearranges the worldhttps://ninaschuyler.substack.com/p/why-not-rearrange-the-world

I'm so excited to teach this class. It's beyond time to share the stage with the More-Than-Human beings who live with humans on this watery blue planet. Online, asynchronous; I'll be there, encouraging, commenting, cheering, suggesting, making the fertile soil for you to create.

Trump claims ‘wind mills’ kill whales but quietly torpedoes the… The Interior Department defunds two vital research programs that track North Atlantic right whales near active offshore wind construction sites.

SCOOP from me:

I uncovered that the Interior Department just quietly defunded *two* multimillion dollar research programs studying how whales move and behave near U.S. wind farms actively being built.

Trump blames wind turbines for whale deaths, then cuts vital research on the topic. 🧵

At low enough pH levels, corals and shells can begin to dissolve. These effects could destabilize entire ecosystems and devastate many commercially valuable species, such as oysters.

Carbon dioxide concentrations reached a record global high of 422.7 parts per million (ppm) last year. Much of that carbon dioxide gets absorbed by the ocean, increasing its acidity, which can have profound impacts on marine ecosystems.

Here's the link to submit a public comment to oppose the rescission of the 2001 Roadless Rule, which, if passed, would open up almost 45 million acres of federal forest and wildlands.

Please submit a comment to protect the wilderness.

Anthropic agrees to pay $1.5 billion to settle author class action Anthropic told a San Francisco federal judge on Friday that it has agreed to pay $1.5 billion to settle a class-action lawsuit from a group of authors who accused the artificial intelligence company of using their books to train its AI chatbot Claude without permission.

The proposed deal marks the first settlement in a string of lawsuits against tech companies, including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms, over their use of copyrighted material to train generative AI systems.
