If this current streak doesn't stick I'll have to give Chantix a shot. Can't be any weirder than pot dreams, yeah?

This is the first time living in the suburbs has made my life better - I can't simply walk to the store and buy a pack.

Corporate executives are already, largely, know-nothings that push off all their cognitive load onto subordinates so it makes sense that they would champion AI - it's what they already do but potentially cheaper.
This is pretty much how corporate executives already treat their analyst teams.

I have literally watched something like 5 hours of this DOGE bro testimony. I'm completely obsessed, it's weirdly captivating. The circular arguments, the disdain from everyone involved, a true pleasure to watch

The meme of Anthony "Spice" Adams standing behind tree rubbing his hands. In this instance, he's wearing a red jacket with the 49ers logo on it. His head is replaced by a power substation and at the top it reads "San Francisco's electromagnetic fields looking at Mike Evans' ligaments.
I am absolutely howling at this (h/t Eric Crocker over at X). 49ers fans, we can't help but laugh.
The got my 7yo a "nice" yoyo because she asked for one. I broke the string showing her how to sleep it. Ordered some new strings and a yoyo for myself. Now my arm hurts from throwing a yoyo all night after a 30 year break.

It must be very hard to publish null results Publication practices in the social sciences act as a filter that favors statistically significant results over null findings. While the problem of selection on significance (SoS) is well-known in theory, it has been difficult to measure its scope empirically, and it has been challenging to determine how selection varies across contexts. In this article, we use large language models to extract granular and validated data on about 100,000 articles published in over 150 political science journals from 2010 to 2024. We show that fewer than 2% of articles that rely on statistical methods report null-only findings in their abstracts, while over 90% of papers highlight significant results. To put these findings in perspective, we develop and calibrate a simple model of publication bias. Across a range of plausible assumptions, we find that statistically significant results are estimated to be one to two orders of magnitude more likely to enter the published record than null results. Leveraging metadata extracted from individual articles, we show that the pattern of strong SoS holds across subfields, journals, methods, and time periods. However, a few factors such as pre-registration and randomized experiments correlate with greater acceptance of null results. We conclude by discussing implications for the field and the potential of our new dataset for investigating other questions about political science.
I have a new paper. We look at ~all stats articles in political science post-2010 & show that 94% have abstracts that claim to reject a null. Only 2% present only null results. This is hard to explain unless the research process has a filter that only lets rejections through.
Iβve tried to use AI for code translation, TSQL to SparkSQL, and even when it does do it well it usually takes a lot of hoop-jumping because it rarely manages to consume more than 50 lines of code without getting lost.
I finally got off my ass and just learned SparkSQL.

I xc ski recreationally and watching Klaebo do this makes me want to vomit.
It's not even that normal people couldn't keep that pace it's the mutant-level balance required to not immediately slip and fuck up your face.
Itβs time to post this. Confirmed.
