Yesterday the NHS banned all under 18 prescriptions of HRT for trans young people.
This ban was justified by 10 new studies that largely stated NO EVIDENCE for under 18s HRT exists.
The study underpinning this played one particular trick.
Let's briefly look at how the NHS rigged the game 1/5
Every protest, every advocacy, needs to focus on this power imbalance.
There is zero point detailing all the thousands of errors in this current evidence review when that feedback goes to the leaders who intentionally designed the process to distort the outcome.
Trans healthcare needs to be led by trans people, to be accountable to trans communities and trans youth.
Folks who don't believe in the existence of a trans child cannot continue to hold the reins of healthcare policy and governance.
This is where we start.
Can you imagine if we tried to evaluate the effectiveness of a drug for an autoimmune condition by excluding all studies to where participants had previously taken NSAIDs (painkillers)?
This is absolutely what will happen when young trans people rationally stop seeking NHS "care" that offers nothing more than conversion therapy appointments.
They never ask the question of the evidence of harms from withholding treatment. Despite the fact they found no evidence of harms from HRT. Wihtholding treatment from a population like this is not a neutral act, it is an intervention in and of itself. One that has no basis in medicine.
The reviews used to justify this excluded nearly 97% of all studies from inclusion in their analysis. This is an absolutely obscene hatchet job by the NHS specifically created to eliminate access to hormones for trans youth.
If you can get someone to admit that they believe trans women have no place in sport then they are admitting that they don't see trans women as women.
It's really that simple.
They've already made formal access near impossible for even ongoing care by destroying the ability to maintain shared care agreements. They eliminated self referrals and GPs will refuse to refer our engage in shared care. They want the ban without calling it one to limit legal challenges.
An effective ban before the end of the year is highly likely. They won't call it a ban. They'll limit private prescribing by citing safety concerns and then rely on the 25 year waitlists for adult care to effectively make formal access impossible. It'll make legal challenges harder.
“Banning new prescriptions of gender-affirming hormones for 16 and 17-year-olds is a profound attack on young people’s bodily autonomy with trans people yet again cruelly singled out by this government.”
The British government continues to trash gender affirming care by claiming “extreme caution.”
As to that question I would argue that there is no customary rule to grant a right to SD agains NSAs, since the practice is not universal enough to rise to customary law. Thus the rule that SD can only be invoked against other states in the Charter is applicable
Let’s all remind ourselves that the question whether a right to self-defence exists against non-state actors like hezbollah is very much not settled and heavily discussed. Frankly the black letter law seems clearly against the idea, although the debate is whether a custom has developed to allow it
The only people selectively invoking international law and human rights are those delusional enough to defend Trump and his forever wars. So stick your straw man where the sun don't shine, deep enough that you can feel a tickle in your throat.
Another thing that bugs me is the repeated accusation of "why do you only invoke international law/human rights to protect Iran's murderous regime? Why not against them?" It's a staple of both mainstream media and online discourse and it's a blatant lie.
