hemlocke springs CD album ‘The Apple Tree Under The Sea’
First new album purchase of 2026: hemlocke springs
Sarah McLachlan’s ‘Better Broken’ CD album. And a lot of Everything But the Girl CDs.
To celebrate Sarah McLachlan’s Tiny Desk today (finally!) shout out if you BOUGHT her new album last year 💁🏻♂️
Tori Amos “Spark” European CD single
Tori Amos polaroid-like CD inserts.
And I was geeked to stumble upon this European release (CD2 of 2) of “Spark” by Tori Amos that has her cover of Steely Dan’s “Do It Again” and several cardboard inserts that look like Polaroid snapshots. Now I need CD1.
The Style Council’s ‘Cafe Bleu’ CD
Back cover of The Style Council’s ‘Cafe Bleu’ CD
Also happy to find a 1984 German CD release of The Style Council’s ‘Cafe Bleu’ with “The Paris Match” featuring Tracey Thorn on vocals and Ben Watt on guitar. They were named as “Hon. Councillors” in the liner notes.
Particularly happy to get this limited edition Mariah Carey double CD of ‘Memoirs of an imperfect Angel’ back in my collection because it includes a CD of “Obsessed” remixes plus the mini Elle magazine insert where Mariah lists her LP releases up to that point… except for ‘Glitter’.
CDs by EBTG, Deep Dish, Mariah Carey, Cher, Thievery Corporation, Natalie Merchant, William Orbit,The Style Council, Mandalay, Tori Amos
CDs by Pet Shop Boys, William Orbit, Billie Myers, Ben Watt, Sasha & John Digweed, Groove Armada’s stellar ‘Back to Mine’ installment
Picked up a few more CDs lately as I build a new collection after the fire:
EBTG, Deep Dish, Mariah Carey, Cher, Thievery Corporation, William Orbit, The Style Council, Mandalay, Ben Watt, Sasha & John Digweed…
Some of these you can’t get on streaming but physical media lasts forever 💿
Let’s not forget that Janet Jackson’s ‘Control’ was the album that broke Whitney Houston’s 14-week streak at number 1 in the U.S. with her debut album. Janet knocked it down to number 3.
I wrote about that here: albumism.com/features/whi...
A stone cold classic in this house.
FIN! 4/4
“When I Think Of You” played right into my hands as a 16-yr old when it dropped. Everything is about infatuation at that age. Perfect roller skating song.
🧵3/4
Only nine songs. Seven of them were spun off as singles in the U.S.
If I gotta pick a top track… it’s “When I Think Of You”. A song about infatuation. Those two piano notes succinctly illustrated the highs and off-kilter lows in those emotionally chaotic early days of falling for someone new.

Janet Jackson ‘Control’ album cover.
Janet Jackson’s ‘Control’ is 40 today. 40!!!
I was 16 when she dropped this and it immediately became one of several pop albums - along with Madonna, Duran Duran and others - that laid the bedrock to my pop music taste that’s forever in overdrive today.

Happy for Durand Bernarr’s Grammy win for ‘BLOOM’. Much deserved! Overqualified” is in my weekly playlist for next week ⬇️
Worst Dry January ever
…their swirly collab with Everything But The Girl “The Future of the Future (Stay Gold) which EBTG included on their 1999 album ‘Temperamental’. 2/2
Deep Dish ‘Junk Science’ CD album from 1998

Slowly rebuilding my dance CD collection.
Been hunting for this Deep Dish album and finally got my hands on it at Amoeba Hollywood this week.
Richard Morel is all over this, Lem Springsteen (Ultra Naté’s “Free”) and BT play on it and it’s got one of my all time fave dance tracks…

The transition from Candi Staton’s “Hallelujah Anyway” to “Worthy” ft Jocelyn Brown brought a tear to my eye. Church!
This week Defected Records dropped a 2+ hour long 2011 mix by the late Frankie Knuckles exclusively on Apple Music. It was supposed to be a Digital / CD / Vinyl release but his health wasn’t well at the time (we lost him in 2014). LEGEND.
Some of you won’t understand and (pats you on the head) that’s okay.
Congrats! And TY to EIC Justin for letting me go (very) long on Madonna, Taylor Swift, EBTG, Mariah Carey’s ‘Glitter’, Tanya Tucker, Whitney Houston and more…
There’s a shop here in L.A. that does it and I walked out of it again today after a few minutes. Like I don’t need anyone watching me negotiate with myself what I’m spending or not. I’d rather go through that one battle after another thing in private.
It makes for a miserable shopping experience.
Nothing will make me walk out of a record store faster than if they don’t put prices on their CDs and instead want you to bring your selections to the counter so they can tell you the prices.
First spin of the Cameron Winter album and now I wanna play a bunch of Rufus Wainwright.
In 1992, Everything But The Girl released the single "Single" and the accompanying compilation album Worldwide & Acoustic which were available at HMV stores in London. The song "Single" was released as a stand-alone single and was later included on various compilations. The compilation album Worldwide & Acoustic featured tracks from their sixth studio album, Worldwide (1991), and acoustic B-sides
