But, hell, "oligarchic institutional rot and elite capture have left this society vulnerable to exploitation by Actual Evil Wizards who want to do Actual Evil Wizard Things" is a better political analysis than 95% of what I see running around out there, on the internet or off it

Can't believe it's been ten years since my first game jam. I'm a writer, narrative designer, and developer of many games since 2016.
I'm thrilled to be back at GDC hanging with incredibly talented people courtesy of IFTF's partnership this year!
I'm also available for work!

The text/plain segment of GDC's feedback reminder email has been wrong for at least a decade. (Yes, way longer than since 2024.)

Btw, the show floor is shockingly thin. Areas like IGF and alt.ctrl.gdc that used to be laid out with narrow aisles now have huge, generous space allocations.
Itβs nice for us but wow.

A large blue-lit banner reading βGDC Indie Arcadeβ. Behind it are two computers set up running Twine: one editing a game, one playing a game.
IFTF is set up at GDC in the Commons area. Next to a sign that confusingly says βIndie Arcadeβ, but itβs actually the space for nonprofits and indie dev community groups.
Thereβs our machines demoing Twine!

Thereβs an odd GDC vibe where they got rid of the Mon/Tues indie pass and said everything is all week now. But they didnβt solidly communicate that the show floor is still Weds-Fri. Iβve seen people walking around asking βwhere are the booths?β

Then I fled for the hills because itβs too early in the week to blow out my voice shouting in a crowded room.
(Hills, literally. My hotel is halfway up to Chinatown.)

Games whose demos looked neat and I am noting the titles to check up on later:
Mirria (some kind of puzzle)
A Heavy Morning (depression simulator, good animation)
Soundgrass (audio, looked trippy)

I dropped by Day of the Devs, which I'd never done before. Usually I'm too tired to bother by Sunday evening but today I had an energy surge.
Neat! Very loud and crowded. (Hi Evan.)

A game daily leaderboard riffing on the style of a 90s computer. βerkyrathβ (my handle) is listed first, at 1112 points and six cups of coffee. The next best score is johannes2704 at 1094 points and five cups, so Iβm significantly ahead.
Not gonna say this was my *proudest* moment, but I felt good about it. (Yesterday, March 5th.)
Was knocked down to fifth place by the end of the day. Still good.

I'm proud to have been a part of this fun & charming project. My topic was about narrative opportunities in attract screens and the present day equivalent, the Steam Trailer. Thanks to @jon.inkle.co for including me; every one I have read so far has given me something to consider and made me smile.
