As @prh.org fellow, Dr. Verma, said β we should not pretend that this is an issue of the science.β
@acog.org: βcomplication or death risk from an abortion procedure βis less than the same risk from common procedures like wisdom tooth removal, cancer-screening colonoscopy, and plastic surgery.β
Anyway, in conclusion, at this very moment, someone in red America is taking abortion medications out of a bulk supply in their closet and putting it in a nondescript envelope to mail.
This will continue to happen regardless of what the Senate does or doesn't do next.
Third and final witness is Dr. Nisha Verma, an OB-GYN who provides care in Georgia & Massachusetts and is a fellow with @prh.org.
"Holding space for complexity is important -- but discomfort with abortion care should not be used as an excuse to distort facts."
Amazing moment in Dr. Nisha Verma of @prh.org's testimony:
She discloses that she herself took these medications after suffering a "devastating pregnancy loss" a few months ago.
Bernie Sanders: Who should make the decision regarding her own body? Shall it be a woman to be the United States Senate, governors, Attorney Generals? Who should make that decision? Nisha Verma M.D., M.P.H., FACOG: I do want to highlight some misinformation that we've been hearing around the source of some of the harm that we're seeing right now. A lot of the cases that we're hearing about are a direct result of abortion bans and restrictions. People are desperate because they cannot get the care that they need in their communities with their trusted clinicians and people in their communities in the way that they need. And that is why we are seeing these cases come up. It is a direct result of abortion bans and restrictions. Access makes people safer.
Louisiana AG Liz Murrill bemoans that telemedicine Rx plus shield laws allowing Rx across state lines lead to 900 abortions a month in LA; some folks later go to emergency room.
Evidence-based witness from @prh.org later notes people are ordering pills BECAUSE states like Louisiana banned abortion
@prh.org is hiring a full-time physician Reproductive Health Advocacy Fellow β someone ready to use medical expertise to take on policy, misinformation, + the systems that harm our patients.

Folks, itβs high time we cleared something up: abortion pills and βmorning afterβ pills are two different things.
You take the morning after pill when you have the ingredients for tacos.
You take abortion pills when you have an existing taco you donβt want to or canβt have.
βI was with you, until you said βpregnant people.ββ
I get this a lot. Iβm an abortion provider, and the CEO and President of an org known for abortion advocacy. Letβs talk about why I use inclusive language β and why Iβm not stopping. π§΅
if you are βpro-choiceβ and also transphobic, you are not serious about undoing the control, white supremacy, and patriarchy that make abortion bans possible and you are certainly no ally to bodily autonomy or self-determination
Abortion is health care, but it can also be an act of hope or a prayer or a wish or a Hail Mary for the lives patients want to protect or build or keep imagining. Some people donβt want to be pregnant, they have an abortion, they go on to lead the lives they imagined. Abortion is worth celebrating.
I hate the Hyde Amendment and you should too! It prohibits federal funds, like Medicaid, from being used to pay for abortion care. It sucks soooo bad.
Science, not politics, should guide medical care. Yet the Trump administration and RFK Jr. are spreading false claims about Tylenol that create fear and confusion for pregnant patients. Know this: The science is settled. Tylenol is safe in pregnancy.
Thank you for having me @msnbc.com.
appreciated these insights from @prh.org fellow Dr. Mariana Montes, an obstetric anesthesiologist
The same bs they're spewing about autism and tylenol is the same bs they're spewing about trans people's healthcare. It's the exact same playbook and the fact that the media can see through one and not the other is a damning indictment of how complicit they are in the attack on trans lives.
Gotta say we when we worked our ass off to get into to medical school and complete the arduous journey of residency, we didnβt expect to spend so much time defending science and medicine from a *checks notes* whale carcass kidnapper
Balanced coverage β platforming extremists or medical misinformation
Our patients trust us to protect their health and dignity. Political assaults like those from RFK Jr. and the Trump administration only heighten obstetric pain and violence and endanger lives. As physicians, we stand by the evidence: Tylenol is safe. @prh.org
ACOG reaffirms that acetaminophen is safe for managing pain and fever during pregnancy. No reputable studies support suggestions like those in HHSβs recent announcement linking acetaminophen use in pregnancy to autism; in fact, high-quality studies show no such risk. https://bit.ly/47Wxc59

Statement from Physicians for Reproductive Health about new Texas bill targeting abortion medication
After Greg Abbott signed #HB7 (which targets medication abortion) yesterday, Physicians for Reproductive Health @prh.org is out with a statement from Dr. Ghazaleh Moayedi:
Abortion rights shouldnβt be a bargaining chip lawmakers use to negotiate what they consider to be βlegitimateβ political issues. Abortion is inextricably linked with economic, climate, and health care policy. It is a legitimate political issue. You bend on abortion, youβll bend on anything.
danny devito holding a speculum and a manual aspirator saying βso anyway, I started abortingβ
Physicians for Reproductive Health (@prh.org) published resources for health care workers to prepare for ICE or law enforcement presence at their facility:
"It is our collective duty as health care providers to do everything we can to protect our community members, regardless of immigration status"

The Trump administration announced a new initiative aimed at getting noncitizens disenrolled from the Medicaid program & CHIP.
@reprorightsdoc.bsky.social of @prh.org warned that the initiative will "have a chilling effect" on those seeking care.

The Summer I Turned Meaner to Anti-Abortion Extremists
For years, crisis pregnancy centers have been at the forefront of the anti-abortion movementβs agenda to target women navigating unplanned pregnancies.
Now, the state's reproductive rights advocates are flipping the script and have opened Arkansas's first pro-choice "crisis pregnancy center.β
