We are happy to share our first-ever One Health Newsletter. Here you can get an idea of what is happening in Europe in terms of health, and learn more about our work to strengthen the EUβs ability to respond to health crises.
@ecdc.europa.eu (ECDC), @echa.europa.eu (ECHA), @eea.europa.eu (EEA), @efsa.europa.eu (EFSA) and @ema.europa.eu (EMA) are working together to ensure that scientific advice and publications by EU agencies are increasingly integrated and aligned with the One Health approach.
The One Health approach recognises that these threats can only be addressed through multisectoral transdisciplinary collaboration across the domains of human, animal, plant and ecosystem health.
From climate change to antimicrobial resistance, Europe is facing increasingly complex and frequent threats to health and wellbeing.
The goal is straightforward: make energy imports irrelevant. A more shock-proof EU energy system by 2030 is within reach β but only if we act now.
www.eea.europa.eu/en/analysis/...
A dual-speed approach gets us out: β SHORT TERM: Scale domestic renewables fast. Upgrade & digitalise grids. Double EU flexibility through storage & demand response. β STRUCTURAL: Deep building renovations. Circular material use. Cut total energy load and minimise dependencies.
We have watched energy import bills hit 4% of EU GDP during recent crises (2022). We cannot keep funding our own vulnerability.
As gas & oil prices shoot up again due to geopolitical instability, Europe's answer is clear: renewables & electrification are our declaration of independence.β‘
π΄ EU oil import dependency: 97%. Gas: 85%.
π’ Meeting our EU 2030 targets could cut variable costs by up to 57%.

Cyprus showed us that achieving cleaner air & progressing towards climate-neutral mobility is possible.
This video shows how Cyprus achieved both of these goals & how adopting these best practices can help Europe accelerate towards climate neutrality.
π Women are pretty incredible. Good leaders, resilient, articulate, technical, strong role-models, cooperative, analytical, hands-on, creative β¦and so much more!
This #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the women shaping Europe's workplaces and societies every day π₯

πΉ Early-life exposure to certain chemicals is linked to adverse mental health outcomes later in life.
While further research is needed to clarify causality, the evidence strengthens the case for reducing pollution and fully implementing EU environmental legislation.
[...]
Our latest briefing, Pollution and mental health: current scientific evidence, finds that:
πΉ Long-term exposure to #AirPollution (PM2.5 and NOβ) is linked to a higher risk of depression
πΉ Road-traffic and aircraft noise are associated with increased risks of anxiety, depression and suicide

π§ πNew EEA briefing: Pollution exposure linked to depression, anxiety and suicide risk.
#MentalHealth disorders are among the leading causes of disease burden in Europe. While their origins are complex, a growing body of scientific evidence points to pollution as a contributing risk factor [...]

We work with numbers every day. π’ Percentages. Trends. Confidence intervals. πππ
But numbers are never just numbers.
They represent ecosystems, communities, risksβ¦
We often try to tell the story through numbers.
But what do they really mean?
See whatβs behind each number. π
What impact could a #circulareconomy have on mitigating greenhouse gas emissions?
The deployment of a circular economy in Europe could lead to substantial reductions in emissions according to a new #EEAbriefing out today.

Europe proves that tourism resilience is about destinations that thrive alongside their communities, ecosystems that regenerate, and travel experiences that enrich rather than extract.
Let's commit to being part of the solution.
#GlobalTourismResilienceDay
π Expanding high-speed rail networks to reduce flight dependency
π¨ Promoting green certifications (like EU Ecolabel) for accommodations
πΏ Protecting natural areas and balancing conservation with responsible access
π Today on Global Tourism Resilience Day, we celebrate Europe's commitment to sustainable travel.
Popular European destinations are reimagining tourism for a better, more resilient future.
Across the continent, innovation is driving change.
This #InternationalDayOfWomenAndGirlsInScience we're proud to share that in 2025 women made up 56% of our staff at the European Environment Agencyπ
