Food ethics can sound like a luxury hobby. But that's not because people don't care. It's because most of us are navigating real constraints.
Here's what matters: the system is designed to make the cheapest option the easiest option.

Youโre Not Failing at Food Ethics. The System is Built This Way.
Ever more people are waking up to the fact that food, drenched in pesticides, is making us sick, killing eco-systems and poisoning our water, so are choosing to buy organic.

Another report confirms that pesticides, fungicides and herbicides damage soil biomes and reduce fertility.

Donโt let corporations replace your local food economy with junk food. Farmers we filmed in Georgia showed us what we've lost - thriving small farms, village markets and healthy food. Buy from local farmers and markets before they vanish.

We are disappointment and disheartened at the Governmentโs recent announcement that the 2026 Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) will exclude farmers and growers operating on fewer than 3 hectares of land.

There is a need for an immediate market garden support scheme, in time to stop hundreds of small farms and decades of horticultural knowledge disappearing just when itโs most needed. communitysupportedagriculture.org.uk/small-farms-...
This is great โmarketingโ because itโs not marketing. Itโs translation.

โKFC, Nando's and Burger King drop chicken welfare pledge amid national shortages. KFC, Nando's, Burger King and other chains have pulled out of their pledge to stop using fast-growing chickens, with campaigners slamming the owners for letting down 'a nation of animal lovers'โ The Mirror 20 February 2026.
"Failing to address breed means failing the animals - it is not ethical to breed chickens in a way that makes them suffer."
Dr Tracey Jones, our Director of Food Business, speaking to The Mirror.
Cuts to herbal leys. Cuts to organic. Agroforestry still treated like a nice-to-have. Management payment gone. Caps brought in. And weโre supposed to clap because the spreadsheet says itโs streamlined.
Farmers arenโt confused. Weโre being gaslit.

Iโve found a new favourite coffee shop, hidden away like a secret โ๏ธ
Itโs got a wild garden that makes you feel like youโve stepped out of the world, and the coffee is exceptional. The kind that makes you slow down, take the first sip properly, and remember youโre a person, not just a to do list.

Welfare isn't a buzzword. It's space, choice, and pigs being pigs.
Just published a deep dive on why higher welfare on paper doesn't mean higher welfare in practice. It's about enforcement, trade policy, and whether we're serious.

When seeds are patented and supply chains get more concentrated, farmers and eaters both lose choice, and biodiversity is usually the first thing sacrificed.
Clear labelling is the bare minimum. Without it, โchoiceโ is just a marketing word.
RSPCA Assured isnโt โhigh welfareโ for pigs. Another investigation shows serious welfare concerns on an assured farm.
If buying in supermarkets, look for free range or organic.

But there is a solution: โA shift to sustainable farming systems and diets has never been more criticalโ, writes the SFTโs Head of Policy and Campaigns, Megan Perry.

The first AgStacker Roundtable happened on Sunday. It was small, but it felt meaningful. We talked about Substack, community, farming as quiet rebellion, and sharing resources. The recap is live. www.memypigsandi.com/p/we-are-bui...
