🪡 Embroidered book cover with floral decoration, 1632. 12 X 5.5 cm.

An embroidered book cover was an accessory for any book lover in the 17th century.

This cover was made in England in 1632 and originally contained the third part of the bible.

The stunning Iris Agate: A rainbow captured in stone. 🌈✨

When sliced thin and backlit, this rare gemstone reveals spectacular spectral colors. It’s not pigment, but a structural phenomenon caused by microscopic layers that act as a natural prism.

"A Few Seconds Before Happiness,"1955 (some sources also cite 1956). 👦🏼🐶

It is a poignant photograph by the French humanist photographer Édouard Boubat.

While the original photo was taken in black-and-white, it is shared today in various colorized versions.

#OTD 538 AD After a long siege and when all their attempts to enter Rome failed, the Goths decided to retrieve to Ravenna, their Capital city. Unfortunately Belisarius was waiting for them at Milvian Bridge and defeated them.
This was the beginning of the end for the Goth People in Italy.

This picture depicts a woman standing before a Roman general, who sits on a throne. She points toward a man covered in chains, and people around the captive weep.

In a world where female rulers were rare because political power was held by men, Cartimandua was a tactical ruler. This image depicts Cartimandua delivering a captive to a Roman general.

A Magnolia tree photographed from below in a shallow valley. The thin wavy branches of the tree seem to reach up towards a blue sky, offering up dozens of pink blooms. A few wispy white clouds can be seen behind the tree.

The same Magnolia tree seen from above on a bank overlooking a fabulous view of the Weald of Kent in South-East England, an ancient area of land that was once densely forested but is now mainly fields. A small reservoir can be seen on the left. A bank of cloud rests above the horizon.

A small single lily growing out of a mass of dead red brown bracken leaves. The flower is a light purple-pink and star-shaped with 6 petals, long white stamens growing out of the centre with purple dusty tips. It has 2 large blades leaves like a tulip - dark muddy green with light green blotches.

🌷 Dog's Tooth Violet Erythronium dens-canis (actually a lily)

The woods were dotted with these beautiful pink flowers, poking through the mats of dead bracken.

I've seen the odd one or two in previous years, but never so many!
