I just had the most unreal luck. One of my tenants got a plate stuck in the mailbox and a USPS worker just happened to be driving by and unlocked the mailbox and I was able to get the plate unstuck π

Good morning and happy Wednesday from the bus πβ¨
It could be friendlier from a pedestrian standpoint, but I live without a car and get around just fine.
I honestly just really grateful to live in California and for the opportunities and life I have.
Donβt ever give up. I promise that things can work out even if it seems like they wonβt.
Itβs pretty unreal to look back knowing that everything worked out π₯Ή
It was painful to have no service
after running a campaign to prevent the worst cuts in history and having one of the best recoveries in the US.
But we got back up & recovered & we have the chance to grow.
This was one year ago today.
Walking to the places I needed to go during the VTA strike and documenting it was one of the wildest and coolest things Iβve ever done.
And thankfully, it all worked out because we bounced back and still have a natural full recovery.
Thereβs obviously more risk in the business world, but hard work can pay off, especially if you have a good product or service and can market it.
Iβm not against working for the government, but itβs not the only βrightβ option imo. There are also good people doing good things in the business world.
A lot of people get started with biz partners, loans, or both.
But itβs also possible to start small and build from there. One of the businesses I work for started entirely online, grew to a small physical space, and is now in a slightly larger physical space.
Small businesses can still be successful in San Jose. I work for 2 small businesses, and work with small businesses. A lot of people are able to do quite well.
Big businesses throw around money for gain, but small businesses can do well too and itβs not too difficult to get started.
A lot of transit advocates and nonprofits are so out of touch with reality.
Especially considering everything that's going on in the world. Making it easier to start a business and do business helps immigrants, our communities, and transit systems so much.
We need to be honest about the root cause of the transit crisis: struggling local economies.
And start addressing it.

To be clear: every transit agency should survive and succeed.
But we also have to acknowledge the role city leadership plays in shaping that future.
Cities need to focus on bringing residents and businesses back if they want their transit systems to succeed.
This is not simply a case of one city being luckier than another. San Jose leaders focused on the basics of improving safety and making it easier to do business.
Things like permit streamlining, incentives, and outdoor dining made a huge difference.
Funding models differ from agency to agency, but San Jose has had one of the strongest recoveries from both an economic and ridership perspective.
VTA ridership is around pre-pandmeic levels, while agencies like BART are under 50%.
San Jose experienced a stronger economic recovery from the pandemic than Oakland and San Francisco, thanks to strong leadership.
This has kept VTA on a more stable footing and prevented it from facing severe cuts like BART.
Competent leadership matters.

And east coasters who get up early lol
Itβs not even 9am, and I've already been sent the NY Times BART article so many times lol
Good morning and happy Tuesday from the bus πβ¨
Since this is the *anniversary*, Iβm especially grateful to be on transit today π«Ά
One year ago today. Itβs pretty unreal to look back.
I didnβt expect the strike to last as long as it did. I didnβt expect to end up walking 139.4 miles and 305,024 steps.
But I knew I was going to keep fighting for transit no matter what, and I did.
Itβs mostly been funded by grants in San Jose, but itβs in the 500k-2m/year range depending on the size of the city with LYT.ai. Itβs very inexpensive compared to other transit improvements.

Good morning and happy Monday from the bus πβ¨
Night bus vibes πβ¨
I like a little pizza with my garlic π§ππ
@noahsbwilliams.com
I guess they moved here, but theyβre still transit twitter bros lol
Nothing is better than making your transfer thanks to transit signal priority after writing about it πππ
I have the exact same issue with both groups, even though, on paper, I should have more in common with the transit bros π€·π»
Transit twitter bros and conservative anti-transit guys are equally as incapable of listening to anything I have to say and itβs pretty hilarious π
I donβt have a technical piece in the SJ Spotlight, but LYT (the vendor SJ went with) has a lot of good info: lyt.ai/solutions/ly...
