Today's tip: Don't RUSH training‼️
#Dogs learn at dif't paces. It was ~16 mos before I felt Jackson could be off leash in a non-contained area (have I mentioned he was a wild child when rescued?😆). I can now walk away to, say, get him H2O & even a running squirrel WON'T take him out of "Stay"!

Aw. Just explained above: It's not guilt; it's anxiety. They learn patterns, so while they don't quite know what you're angry about (b/c, usually, the things people yell at them for are things they do INSTINCTUALLY) they DO recognize that their person makes loud, scary noises afterwards.

A woman I met said her dog sometimes pees in the elevator on the way down to the street. When asked, she said she tells the dog "No! Stop it!" If you think you're going to stop a dog from doing ANYTHING instinctual (peeing, barking, jumping, etc.) by saying "No!," ur not understanding #dogs at all!🤷‍♂️

But, FYI, it's not a smile, it's anxiety. It's not guilt either; dogs, as smart as they are, don't gen'ly have that capacity; what they DO understand is PATTERNS; if we yell at them for something, they WON'T know why you yell (ever), but they know their person makes angry noises after.

Or I'll just tell you all the same stuff more succinctly in a skeet.😁😁

That could've indeed been the issue, but she's taking him out regularly every few hrs—he's a new rescue & doesn't yet know that the elevator isn't outdoors.

I had the same issue w/my dog when I got him. And when HE peed...it was from a dog that weighed 100 lbs, and the mess...was MUCH bigger.🤦‍♂️😆
