The irony is that they have no shame blowing wads of cash on all of that, but then they just buy a mid Steinway model.

Two cactus wrens sitting atop a chollo.

I love the way these cactus wrens (photographed today) have a safe shelter inside a chollo catcus where they built their elaborate nest.

Environmentalist side of me: "Great, maybe we'll all walk, bike, and bus more and otherwise cut down on consumption."

Humanitarian side of me: "This is going to hit a lot of people very hard, particularly those who can least afford it."

That said, it's always good to walk/bike/bus more. 🌍

The Tyee is proud to have published this important investigation by @rachelgilmore.bsky.social. We condemn this egregious harassment of a journalist for doing her job, and have offered support as she deals with this disturbing situation.

It's nice to know that the Canadian government can re-discover the value of higher education. Perhaps less nice to note that it perceives the value as that of a prop for a PM's visit to another country.

Caspian tern, wings blurred on white

While the Aotearoa New Zealand population of Caspian terns do not usually undergo the long distance trans-equatorial migrations of their North American counterparts, I took great delight in photographing this species β€” a favorite of mine in Seattle – in the New Zealand summer.

Quite a treat to encounter some cute little Diptera in vials inadvertently included amongst my Newfoundland and Labrador mayfly vials: these are Nymphomyiids and blepharicerids.

Definitely Sasquatch. I mean it’s really big out here, spread across AK, BC, WA, OR, and CA. And they would seem to be pretty smart, which explains why they’d avoid us. Who wouldn’t?
