Im sorry that sucks. As far as i know Sai2's recovery is a lot more intuitive. Often even if you load up a recovery file you can ctrl+y to the point you were before the crash.
Im not sure about other programs. Im so sorry, that would ruin my whole week. So you're super valid in frustration.
What kind of art program do you use? Lots of them have a recovery function. It might be worth it to learn a new program that have a feature like this but i understand if it's just not possible.
