You're absolutely right—that was not a command post, that was an elementary school. Those were not military leaders—they were schoolchildren. I said the opposite, and that's on me.

This is a really key thing that people are just not getting: "VC" is simply *not venture capital* anymore. There is ZERO risk for A16Z and peers. They do not resemble the thing that regulators described when creating the category of venture capital. A cartel of ~4 firms runs the whole industry.
Shouldn't we be absolutely inundated with a hundreds of "build a blog in 15 minutes" style demos? Or is concretely showing the productivity boost of a tool just not the thing one does anymore?

I feel like there should be a LOT more videos of people showing off agentic coding given how much people are hyping it. Plenty of tutorials on how to use it, but very few demonstrations of it in action.
Important heads up: The feds have -publicly- subpoenaed Google, Reddit, Discord, and Meta for information (names, phone numbers, email addresses) associated with accounts that are either critical of ICE or that are tracking ICE activities.

we need to talk about that Ring Super Bowl ad
So uh Ring just up and said they've got a huge centralized private surveillance network they can leverage all at once huh
I wrote about my time in Minneapolis last week, about what is involved in creating bottom-up, decentralized networks of care.

Do you honestly think people in the civil rights movement and other nonviolent movements faced no violence themselves? They practiced nonviolence because it works, because the oppressor wants a shooting war, which is the war it will win
Mood in minneapolis right now
Do you know how hard it is to get cops to seemingly side with people shot by a bunch of officers
a lot of people don't realize that Christmas carols and traditions are actually folk memories of suppressed pre-Christian events, namely the end of the Third Age and the Fall of Sauron.
This is why I find arguments about productivity (including AI) so tedious. Everybody is measuring it on the wrong time scale. When your project gets killed, it turns out in retrospect you’ve been running at 0% productivity all along. And this effect dominates in some industries.
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥
This stuff is backed by very clear research. It’s safer for drivers. The feeling that it’s more constrained is literally what saves drivers lives by making them slow down and pay attention.
When trapping small birds in nets for research, you have to get them out quick or the deer come and devour them.
Nick Offerman singing a song about making things yourself is the little dose of positivity I didn't know I needed today. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z329...
That does make me realize crop&scale invariant image signing sounds cool and I wonder if somebody has done it.
I like the idea but this sounds hard to do well with just tech. It probably needs law too/instead. I would put money on the private key getting extracted within weeks of release, and nobody would share the signed originals anyway because there’s too much (benign) image mutation in typical workflows.
I am no longer employed so I'm not blogging Zohran tonight but I can just repeat exactly what I said in June :-)
he won on the back of a pro-migrant, pro-trans, pro-working class campaign. and also: Dem pundits are full of shit
The fun answer is that it’s not far away at all. You could drive there in less than two hours if your car could drive straight up.
Many people in costumes trick or treating down a residential street with closely spaced three-story, two-family homes.

"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something
Find a No Kings protest Saturday and go!
Don't worry that you've never been to a protest before. Don't worry about being dressed wrong or looking out of place. Don't worry that you don't agree about everything -- or even about much -- with lots of people at the protest.

Yeah the first time in my life I had my own room was my third year of college.
Big Brother wasn't an actual person leading the Party and orchestrating the Two Minutes Hate. He was a symbol. A face.
Cults of personality usually die off when the personality does, or at least substantially reduce. But will they still when a facsimile of the central figure lives on as AI slop?
Housing discourse is full of people saying they can’t afford kids because they can’t afford a bedroom per kid. But that’s an insane requirement. Most of humanity doesn’t have that. Your grandparents probably didn’t have that.
