Usually an air sensor thing or one of the goofy reasons others have suggested. I used to get the gas cap thing a few years ago.

I know there's a lot going on but I finally made the effort to find the manual for my dishwasher online and well NOW I know why it's not cleaning dishes anymore (it has TWO filters... In two years I've only cleaned out one)
