A simple White House visit after winning a tournament *can* be written off as going through the motions without any political agreement (I disagree with Trump in the WH, but can see people making the argument).
The SOTU guest list is agreeing to being used as a political prop.
Everyone knows the State of the Union is a political event at this point. If you agree to be the guest of any person at this event - Democrat or Republican - it's agreeing to be used as a symbol of support for the*political agenda* of the person inviting you.
And my dad used to sell cable and Internet door-to-door back in the day. He'd spend all day in an apartment building. I don't know how he did that.
I feel similarly about cold calling people for campaigns. I get the importance, but it just makes me anxious and uncomfortable.
I definitely appreciate the need for canvassing in apartments like this to engage everyone. But I didn't even feel good about knocking on doors at single family homes. Just not for me at all.
And to be clear, it very well might be legal in Ohio (or even a protected right), but I think the campaigns generally didn't want inexperienced folks getting into murky water and just blanket advised against it for the average volunteer.
Yeah I've canvassed before in Ohio and was essentially told not to enter common areas. I haven't done it in a while because it makes me so uncomfortable.
I'll happily collect signatures for ballot measures/candidates in public places, but hate bugging people in their private spaces.
I'm confused. Is it normal for candidates to enter the common areas of apartment buildings to canvas? I guess another resident let them in?
