They need to build up the cast, if they want to keep the show going for more seasons. We've got Hen pretty much set up to take over from Bobby when the time comes, but we need more cops and more probies at the 118 (and Ravi back)

That's probably right. I just don't think they're taking into account what this should have to say for both Chris, and his relationship to Eddie. If they haven't established communication yet during next episode, Eddie will be getting back a stranger in spring
As a parent, and a teacher, I'm getting very concerned by the time it's taking.. I understand the writers don't have my education, and might just not care about it that much, but it's honestly getting to a point where outside intervention is needed..
Also, it's not hard to have him living with Eddie without showing him every episode. Scenes with him could be shot "in bulk" when he's in LA, and you can have scenes where he's in the other room, people talking about him, speaking to him on the phone etc
It's true it has been more than just recently, but Gavin is in Highschool now and needs to spend more time on school than when he was in middle school. In BTS we also see him using his wheelchair more for every season. Health and school go before his acting career
there is no genuine or meaningful character development happening off-screen. if we're not seeing it and it's not mentioned, it's not even character development. it's just a headcanon.
We know that Gavin doesn't live in LA anymore and filming isn't as easy. That doesn't mean they can't mention him, have Eddie talk about him etc. Talking on the phone doesn't require the actor either, if it's not a video call. They could if they wanted to
At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if that car blows, lands on some extra's leg and it's not even acknowledged. That seems to be the running theme for these last episodes 😅
