Currently set up by the bar. Got some pics from Missing Link, Wild King, Haslab and more!
(Currently supertall costumes are here)
I will say that I do agree with you on the Diaclone stuff tho.
Come on HasTak, whereβs Reboost from Legacy Skids and Red Mirage??? I need the red lad and lass (I headcanon that a Diaclone Red Mirage would be female)
Things happening IRL that affect why so much G1 stuff does happen (86 movie anniversary, G1 stuff just being popular and selling well, characters not having had a new toy for a few years). But thatβs just my opinion on the matter.
The toylines will never be perfect, and there is stuff I donβt like about them (come on HasTak, just do proper Energon and Beast Machines updates already), but I do think people overstate how much G1 stuff is churned out and donβt think too much in terms of the demand for G1 stuff and (continued)
Budget to go around for a 3 wave long toyline each year. They canβt cram every G1 and non-G1 character all at once, so they do need to pick and choose when it comes to which characters get new toys next as well as reuse molds to save on budget for new figure toolings. (continued)
And Iβm also aware that G1 also sells well. Plus the new G1 toys are pretty good - the new AOTP Combaticons are fantastic figures, especially Blast Off and Brawl. So even if we do get a lot of G1 toys, weβre getting some GREAT G1 toys.
And, I also know that thereβs only so much (continued)
Like compared with that, the current TF collector toylines are doing fairly well for mixing G1 stuff with non-G1 stuff imo.
And while I would love more non-G1 figures (GIVE ME A NEW ARMADA DEMOLISHOR, PLEASE), Iβm still happy with the amount weβre currently getting (continued)
The non-G1 stuff that we do get. Like it could be worse everyone - we could be LEGO DC where itβs non-stop Batmobiles and Batman & Joker sets with Superman being relegated to a little mech set while other heroes like Wonder Woman and Green Lantern not being in ANY sets the last 3-4 years (Continued)
Especially since βmodernβ G1 toys and stories have been happening for years now.
I do totally get people not liking G1 or being uninterested in new G1 toys in stuff like Gens and Studio Series 86, tho I do think some do overstate how much modern G1 stuff there is and just donβt mention (continued)
My thoughts on the whole βtoo much G1β thing. Like Iβm all up for more non-G1 stuff and changing stuff up (Cyberworld doing things like Pirate boat Scourge and bull Megatron is fun), but I do feel that some like to overstate just how much G1 stuff we get nowadays (continued)
Since their original 90s figures.
Non-G1 toys still happen, and they will likely continue to happen following how well Legacy did and with Eric Siebenelar hinting at some more Animated stuff coming next year.
Sorry if this thread has gone on a bit long, but I just wanted to share (continued)
And itβs still not prevented non-G1 stuff to get new toys. Weβre getting a live action movie Dinobot as this yearβs Titan class figure, and one of the two Commander class figures coming this year is Armada Jetfire.
And thereβs also Quickstrike & Big Convoy getting their first new molds (continued)
And yeah, there is a lot of G1 toys atm; but to put simply: G1 just sells really well, of course theyβre gonna be in demand.
But as well, with the combiners and 86 move anniversary, it does make sense why theyβve gotten a fair bit of focus the last couple of years. (Continued)
Plus itβs also fun to see the lesser known G1 characters getting toys at the same time as the big names like Optimus and Megs. Minerva got her first toy since that Animated Arcee retool one, Sureshot had his first new toy since his original one from 1987. (Continued)
Especially since the only voyager class Earth jet G1 Thundercracker was the Earthrise mold⦠which was an exclusive that released in the middle of the pandemic that fucked over everything.
Like, it just makes sense to get a new toy of him out at mass retail that people can easily get. (Continued)
Had mass retail toys in ages. The last time a G1 Thundercracker mass retail toy released was the Legacy core class figure from three years ago⦠and the last one that was larger than a core class was Siege TC which came out 7 years ago. Like yeah, makes sense to give him a new toy (continued)
Plus, this year and last year include the 40th anniversary of the G1 movie and updates to three separate G1 combiners. It probably will be fairly G1 heavy considering these are happening at the same time.
Plus some G1 characters getting new toys are ones that havenβt (continued)
Or the Fallen being Dreamwave but having accessories from RID2015, live action and the Covenant of Primus.
And while this year and last year have been fairly G1 heavy, weβve still gotten plenty of non-G1 characters like RID01 Sky-Byte, Cybertron Sideways, Armada Red Alert etc (continued)
When Siege started? Or even further back to Combiner Wars?
And this has continued into Age of the Primes, with the Thirteen copying Legacyβs anything goes approach with their designs coming from all over the place, like Liege Maximo being his G2 design, Micronus being his RID2015 one (continued)
Franchise being able to get a Generations figure. RID01 Side-Burn, G2 Jhiaxus, TFP Dreadwing, Animated Prowl - all of them getting new figures for the first time in ages.
Like it even added Rescue Bots in Generations! Who wouldβve thought Rescue Bots would get Gens toys back (continued)
And itβs also introduced its own new characters like Shredhead (even if I would like the comic to give them a bit more focus).
And when it comes to toys⦠like, we got Kingdom and Legacy back-to-back. Two toylines that expanded Generations from mainly G1 to damn near anything from the (continued)
And you can see the current Skybound Comics doing the same - it started very much as G1, and while itβs still staying to the G1 aesthetic, it is including characters who first appeared outside of G1 like Bulkhead, doing new stuff with established characters like making Arcee a Magnus (continued)
Started very much as G1, but then after a few years also did its own thing and also included characters and lore aspects from various different Transformers series like the Beast Era, the Unicron Trilogy etc.
While also introducing new original characters like Nautica, Aileron, Drift (continued)
Set the stage for what a lot of other aspects of the franchises can be like as well as what lots of people who later work on said franchise do with their own stories.
And even then, other aspects of the franchise can still be included in G1-based stuff. Just look at IDW which (continued)
Ngl, I do think some of the βtoo much G1β stuff with Transformers is a bit overblown.
Like yeah, there is plenty of G1 stuff and media inspired or based on G1. But, G1 was the first show, toyline and comic series of Transformers. The first instalments in a major franchise do usually (continued)
Like yeah we might have gotten a fair bit of G1 stuff this year and last yearβ¦ but this is happening on the 40th anniversary of the G1 cartoon movie and when they are doing updates of *three* separate G1 combiners. Itβs fairly understandable that itβs somewhat G1-heavy as of late with that in mind.
Plus thereβs still plenty of non-G1 stuff coming. This yearβs Titan class is a Bayverse Dinobot, we got a Commander class Armada Jetfire coming, the designs of the AOTP Thirteen take inspiration from everything like G2, TFOne, RID2015 etc
So a 3 pack of G1 Autobots is fine.
I think this release makes sense.
Bog standard releases of G1 Ironhide, Bluestreak and Mirage havenβt been on shelves in a while, so it makes sense to get them all out again for fans who didnβt get those last releases.
If you're at TFCon LA and you have a toy that could do with some pictures on the wiki, our own @msipher.bsky.social is currently in the Marriott lobby to do a little photojournalism! Head on over!
