I think it's very telling that my tia babysat for a rich white woman back in the 1970s, and once her kids were grown lost contact with her. But when she was contacted about the funeral, she came. She came after several decades of not speaking. Wonderful woman.

It was less the religion, but moreso the unbridled racism I experienced. I then rebelled really hard against them as a result.

I was baptized as a Catholic as a BABY (dad was Catholic, mom was Baptist) and my Baptist church would genuinely ostracize me for it when I was a literal child. It was a white Southern Baptist Church in CALI. So they treated my mom was one of the good ones and said some of the most vitriolic shit.
