That was one of the things I considered when I was writing my giant book.
Things you don't fight, including plant and fungal life, can be important to making an imaginary world feel more "real."

Free for anyone: a plot hook I just wrote, inspired by three concepts/words I got from someone at a gaming convention (world war z, kelemvor, kpop).
Enjoy. ๐ฑ

Image contains text describing a D&D magic item: Warm Returns Weapon (club), rare This is a 3-foot long piece of wood that looks and smells like it was pulled from an extinguished campfire. One half of the wood is a little narrower than the rest of it, though there is a wider knob at that end. A strip of leather has been wrapped around the narrowest 1/3 of the wood to form a grip. This is a magical weapon that gives you a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with it. On a hit, the club deals an additional 1d4 fire damage. As a reaction when you are attacked with a thrown or ranged weapon, you can make an attack roll with the club with advantage. If your attack roll is higher than the attacker's, the thrown weapon or ammunition is ignited and reflected back at the attacker. If your attack roll hits the attacker's AC, the attacker takes the damage from the weapon or ammunition, plus 2d4 fire damage. If you place this club in a burning campfire and take a long rest within 10 feet of that fire, you experience pleasant dreams during the rest and wake with 1d4 temporary hit points. The club is unaffected by fire. Created by The Amethyst Dragon at amethyst-dragon.com
I was given 3 random words at a gaming convention: dream, fire, and baseball.
I made this magical club with a campfire theme that returns ranged attacks and puts some heat on them.
I make new stuff constantly, and it's all found at amethyst-dragon.com.

The robins are back at my house in Wisconsin, and last weekend I saw a couple hundred Canadian geese migrating northward along the Mississippi River.
Actual spring might just be here.
Did you know that public libraries sometimes have D&D game books?
You can also ask your library if they have The Amethyst Dragon's Hoard of Everything. If they don't, you can let them know they can get a deal on it right from the publisher.
Seeing some amazing costumes at #Evercon. Keep it up people!

I really thought there might be a TPK tonight (the first for this group that's been playing together for more than 5 years now). D&D 5e, level 3 PCs, some bad dice rolls...
2 unconscious, 0-hp characters (1/2 the group) rolled clutch nat 20 death saves during the same round, saving themselves.

Evercon is this coming weekend in Rothschild, WI (just south of Wausau).
You should go there to play games and come talk to me in the Artist Alley room. I have the stuff you want.

Plattecon begins at UW-Platteville (in Platteville WI).
You should come play games and talk to me in Ullsvik Hall.
If you procure books for a public library (or a friendly local game store), I do offer special pricing on The Amethyst Dragon's Hoard of Everything. All you have to do is ask.

If you are a D&D person, you can often find game books at your public library.
If your library is part of the Winding Rivers system (in Wisconsin), you can even borrow *my book* to use (just don't keep it forever, so others can use it).

The Quiltening story starter Each year, on the day of the autumnal equinox, the small farming village of Battingbrook has a traditional day of celebration of the passage of another year and the approach of winter, which they call Renewal Day. The children of the village call it Fluff Day. For months out of the year, children of the village are tasked with gathering and keeping soft feathers, soft fur, cattail fluff, and dry milkweed seed pods. The evening before Renewal Day, all of the gathered materials are brought to the great hall, a large, indoor gathering place in the center of Battingbrook. On Renewal Day, the people gather together to remove the stuffing and batting from all of the pillows and quilts they possess, then refill those objects with the fresh supply of fluffy, insulating materials gathered by the children. While this is happening, children play games, musicians perform, and the community shares meals together as they prepare for the coming winter. Today is Renewal Day, but there is a disastrous problem. The entire collection of fluffy materials disappeared during the night.
If your PCs like to help people and/or solve crimes, this little plot hook/starter may come in handy.
Inspired by 3 random words from a person at a convention: time, fluff, autumn.

Text on yellowish background, imitating the style of stats boxes for items in D&D books. Suspenders of Disbelief Wondrous item, rare While you wear the suspenders, you may chose to fail a perception or insight check for any reason.
I am randomly reminded of this homebrew D&D item I made mostly as a joke.
I love it when my Patreon members ask me to make them something custom (members above lowest tier can do this every month).
Tonight I made a fun lava-themed magic weapon.

I am amused by the creative problem solving on how to deal with clothing and a tail. More realistic than the typical "doesn't have to make sense, the tail is just there".
Cute.
Campaign on the red one has a spelling error, though. Just gotta swap the g and the i. :)
Can I get 5 different people to each roll 1d10 and reply with your result?
Thanks.

It's funny how something simple like experimenting with a home laminator can entertain a person for several hours.
Yes, I got myself a new office toy and I'm printing and laminating a few things for my convention table. ๐
The Amethyst Dragon's Hoard of Everything has 107 D&D 5e subclasses.
I've currently got 25 more that will be in Book 2. My ideas/to-do list has another 50 subclasses I could make up, though I likely won't use all of them.

I also did a ton of the illustrations in the book, and did all the crowdfunding and the shipping myself.
Feel free to ask me anything about D&D stuff. :)

It's #SelfPromoSaturday for #ttrpg folks, so...
I'm the author, designer, and publisher of a 592-page D&D 5e hardcover book called The Amethyst Dragon's Hoard of Everything. I continue to write new game content 2+ times a week, and I'm working on Book 2.

To add: I did multiple years of full gen con schedules. It was a good thing for me, personally, but it doesn't work for everyone.
...event tickets, because games also fill up at those. Most smaller cons don't charge $ per game (except for some tournaments).
Dealer/vendor booths always get a full walk-through before I return to buy. I don't wait until the last day, because things I want might be sold out.

When I went to a big convention (Gen Con), I did what many recommend against: I filled my schedule as much as possible (leaving some travel, meal, and dealer hall times) with as many different games/events as I could get into.
Smaller conventions are more casual, but still good to reserve...

Between creations on my Patreon and things written for my books, I've made 3,000+ pieces of Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) 5e gaming content.

I get words of inspiration from people who come to my table at gaming conventions, and sometimes those words lead to the creation of NPCs like Whisper, a dangerous woman who gathers and sells information to those who can pay.
