At the National Association of State Election Directors's conference this week, we had a chance to meet dedicated election directors from around the country and show our off voting equipment.
We need the same protection from voting systems – paper/tabulator configuration mismatch detection, paper crease filtering, etc. Voting systems should protect us from human error. Because if they don't, we'll continue to have crises of broken voter trust for entirely preventable raesons.
Our message – let's stop blaming "human error", and start blaming voting systems.
We expect a modern car to protect us from ourselves – lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, etc. That's a car you can trust.
Just about every voter trust crisis of the last few years is rooted in honest, human error. It's not Russia or China hacking our voting machines – though we shouldn't ignore that risk – it's a hard-working election administrator missing a step in a complex checklist.

Yesterday, news broke that Dominion Voting Systems was sold to a new company, Liberty Vote. Dominion, the second-largest voting systems vendor in the US that currently tabulates 1 in 5 American votes, is no more.
