In the end, a compromise was struck to offer some departing Tories & Crossbenchers life peerage. It does mean they get to continue in the Lords - but only for life/retirement.
The bill now goes for Royal Asset.

The remaining Hereditary Peers are now set to be removed from the House of Lords after the Tories dropped their opposition in the Lords to be Bill delivering on Labour's manifesto promise.
The bill has stuck on the Lord's for over 6 months with no action.
