The only correct answer to the Trolley Problem is to shoot the person proposing the Trolley Problem
Not that steamfitters can't be pretentious (e.g. yours truly), but my grandfather is very much not pretentious.
After staffers at The TRiiBE unionized two weeks ago, one of their reporters was fired. The union believes she was terminated for union organizing, and are demanding that the member be reinstated and the union be voluntarily recognized.
Okay where are my union historians at—trying to figure out how many union staff strikes there have been in recent-ish years, and if there were any stats on which one of them was the longest
My immediate thought goes to the NEA staff lockout, but that doesn't quite fit the bill

Wish they could just make public transit free or some combo of both. I’m in the *Bay Area*, commute 25 mi round trip, & it would cost more than my car payment + insurance + (current) gas to take transit every day.
This is probably just going to result in even MORE people driving than usual
And the mechanism is so obvious because LLMs are so new but it's the exact same mechanism as political centrism and that's actually kinda cool to see up close and in real time
If you're excited about the technology for specific applications, you're cool
If you're excited about convincing LLM skeptics to get onboard by telling us we're just as bad as the tech bros, you're a centrist
LLM centrism is distinct from people who work in the field and are excited about specific applications while recognizing its limitations, the difference is subtle but very, very important
It actually rules to watch LLM centrism develop in real time. "Ok yes, tech bros are taking things way too far but LLM skeptics are just as silly, surely we can all agree that it's a transformative new technology and we all need to get onboard" and like, bro. Bro. We know who's side you're really on
I actually can’t believe this shit is still happening. If Epstein was still alive they would give him a tell all television show to narrate.
Why the fuck are you giving this repugnant ghoul a platform?
I mean, I do that anyway, but even though I think it's pretty light, I don't think I'm escaping my Milwaukee accent.
I wonder if I learned it that way because my Oma is from the Netherlands or because my mom has weirdly pretentious notions about some things for being the daughter of a steamfitter?
A mirror selfie of me where I'm holding the phone to the side and looking straight into the mirror so that you can see my hair and how the waves are laying perfectly. I am a female presenting person with long black hair though you can only see the front of it which is a little past my shoulders and I have black straight bangs
Holy shit I bought one of those split ends trimmers that are all over Instagram & I kind of thought it was going to be BS bc it seemed too good to be true but I cut my own hair, so I figured it was worth a shot. My hair has never looked or felt better & it fully brought out my natural wave pattern

Re: the bit about expectations, there's a not insignificant amount of discussions between my partner and I that follow the pattern of them expressing appreciation for something I do, me incredulous, stating how I'm pretty sure that's just a regular way to treat another human, and then us hugging.
this is not me saying "just let people enjoy things", or saying that negativity killed media jobs. I'm not saying "don't be critical". I'm just saying good critique comes from a grounded place, rooted in understanding what you love. This is also just my opinion, and you don't have to care!
Obviously, an invalidated ID is a more pressing issue, but given that states are requiring IDs at scale, I'm wondering if this has already started to impact trans people (creators or otherwise) in places like Texas, Kansas, Florida and Ohio.
I'm curious to hear from trans creators using systems like Yoti and Ondato to upload content, and whether the presence of gender marker that doesn't match an image makes using these systems more difficult.
Age-verification systems already have much higher failure rates for trans people and people of color than for cis white people.
Forcing gender markers that don't match what the perceived biometrics could result in denial of access.
Conservative efforts to invalidate trans ID documents, coupled with age-verification laws, could block trans people large parts of the internet.
Platforms from Discord to Bluesky to adult sites are increasingly reliant on valid IDs for age-verification — and thus access.

New horrors on the way for trans adults in the UK... (When they did a similar review for trans teens, they threw out 97% of all studies and then basically went "wow, there's not any research to demonstrate this if effective; guess we gotta ban it.") Now it looks like they're doing same for adults.
Every year my Businese Manager's references to the Baldwin ad I was in for our union makes me cringe more and more more than they did originally just from being on camera.
How about not confirming Trump appointments. Stop. Capitulating. It's consistently embarrassing how often the good you do is offset by more conventional Democrat cowardice you show with votes like this.
