I do kind of think floor crossing should trigger a by-election.

But also, the NDP are really not shaking the idea that they are a broken party.

I wonder what folks in Idlout's riding think.
Nobody is asking the right questions, which are about how Carneyβs agenda for a military focused economy will inevitably make Canada increasingly complicit in all conflicts, regardless of whether we are directly participating or not.

Iβm so disgusted.
Also, Idlout blocked me the night of the budget vote when I pointed out that I was not buying her attempt to explain away her abstention, which helped Carney's budget to pass.
Incredibly shameful.
Cow cats! π
NEW: Like most news podcasts this week, The North State tackles the war in Iran. But for this one, @ianagp.bsky.social and I take a different approach; Including the baffling contradiction in motives and the cost of spinelessness in these illegal attacks. Listen wherever you get podcasts.

Well, TBF, Poilievre very much supports the war.
Kwan said sheβs open to amendments but hasnβt received suggestions from Liberals βbeyond that she remove language around the US.β
βThe government has said the existing exemption to the US is no loophole, but part of a deliberate calculation to allow for better defence integration with a key ally.β
Obviously, this bill won't pass, but given Carneyβs agenda for turning Canada into a military economy, Iβd say that the possibility of 16 liberal MPs signing this bill is a pretty significant crack in Carneyβs attempt to assert power absolutely.
Wild stuff that the Carney government, which has defined itself in terms of asserted sovereignty from the US, which is threatening to invade Canada, insists on maintaining an exemption for supplying arms to the US while continuing to call the US a βkey ally.β
The contradictions!
The US bias of BlueSky's "Trending" topics is intense. The "Trending" list will always differentiate US politics into subtopics, but if "Canada" is trending, then the trending topic is "Canadian politics," which means any political discussion for an entire country gets included in that topic.

Future historians, a hundred years from now, will say that it was nuclear war that did the people of the 21st century in, but in truth, it will have been this.
Me: Polling is a bullshit way of analyzing politics.
Pollsters: Well, our polling shows that a majority of people like polling that reflects their majoritan views.
People turned to nationalism when threatened from outside. Carney gave them as much nationalism as they could swallow, and now we are all paying for it. But pollsters can't get beyond "Oh, look how popular he is!"
Oh, people like his brand. What analysis. Amazing.
This is bootlicking pollster drivel.
Carney's MO is sovereignty over territory, resources, and people toward extraction, industrial militarization, and austerity.
You recognize his "brand," but there is absolutely no critical reading here of Carney. You are taking an authoritarian, hyper-capitalist, antidemocratic leader at his word.
It's been a long time coming. Canadian independent bookstores have banded together to create an online book buying source so you can avoid the behemoth in the room. (Here are the titles published by CMU Press, which I run.)

Amazing stuff.
