Thrilled to share that @stefaniebailer.bsky.social and I have been awarded 1.5 million CHF in SNSF funding for our new project: “Electoral choice: Which role does legislators’ quality play?”
We’re recruiting 1 postdoc and 2 PhD candidates to join us in Basel and Geneva!
Feel free to reach out to me or Stefanie for more information!
We also analyze how these factors influence vote choice, and how the role of quality in elections can be strengthened – with cross-national surveys, survey and field experiments and panel data.
In the project we explore whether MPs can effectively perform and implement their ideas - something shaped by their effort and policy influence. The project develops a comprehensive index of MP quality always with a close focus on which qualities voters value most in a comparative perspective.
Join our international teams in Basel and Geneva for a four-year postdoc and two four-year PhD positions as of March 2025, here the job ads:

📣 New research in EJPR together with the wonderful @nathaliegiger.bsky.social, @stefaniebailer.bsky.social, T. Turner-Zwinkels & S. Heller:
We find:
1) MPs use more constituency signals while campaigning,
2) voters notice the signals,
3) but don't reward that behaviour.
