In Soviet times, communist regimes pressed both men and women into scientific careers. The coercion may be gone, but the legacy remains

Even today, western media describes women’s equality under communism as a bad thing.

And the fact that half of Soviet scientists were women is proof that the reason it’s so low in capitalist countries isn’t “women don’t prefer that kind of work” like some try to claim.

I've made arrangements, thanks to everyone who reached out anyways!

trying out a new kind of vibecoding where I press the buttons on my keyboard and code appears on the screen. the code doesn't work most of the time but after a few iterations it usually gets there

it would have to be two or four pairwise identical DDR4 sticks of at least 8 GB in size each to make sense for the setup I'm building and its requirements

would anybody i know be willing to donate DDR4 RAM for a bare metal CI server i'm building, for Glasgow, Amaranth, and other projects i'm migrating off GitHub?

yeah amos is at the 'huffing paint' level of ai use. pathetic honestly

(that figure is for GP4, haven't looked at GP5 or others)

do note GP devices are *very* slow, 10 MHz Fmax is about what you should be expecting to get. so even for level shifter applications they're kind of mediocre

me and Andrew Zonenberg wrote the first fully open FPGA toolchain targeting GreenPAK 4 (this was before icestorm), but since Renesas bought Dialog which bought Silego it all kind of went to hell :S

ugh that's obnoxious

i'm starting the move to my own CI because github's is increasingly garbage but this is obviously not an option for everyone

window positioning coming to Wayland, you love to see it

this is a blocker for WINE being really usable on Wayland without using XWayland (and it's a hard blocker for loss32 because the taskbar needs to be at the bottom of the screen!)

I would like to formally announce that the #GlasgowInterfaceExplorer revD development (the next iteration: with the same FPGA but 32 digital I/Os and 8 single-ended analog channels that can be configured as 4 differential ones) is well underway with a CS campaign planned later this year; stay tuned!

#GlasgowInterfaceExplorer now has a first-class progress bar implementation with a nice API that takes into account terminal writes elsewhere in the Python application as well as nested or concurrent progress trackers resulting from applet composition!
