Once watched a rich guy berate my old boss for refusing to put motion detectors in his attic. Rich guy was EXTREMELY concerned about people breaking in by breaching his roof. Was one of the most surreal things I've witnessed in person

I am aware that saying βmy wifeβ like Borat is perhaps the height of cringeworthy millennial behavior, but you need to understand that when I do it Iβm actually quoting the Bobβs Burger episode where his dreamworld coworker is saying it, making it much more sophisticated
There are two houses in my neighborhood that still have Christmas trees visible in their windows and honestly? Respect
it feels like a small thing in context of all of the other things but it is a piece of the larger authoritarian project that there are fewer places to publish essays now and the carefully edited essay as a public form for thinking and responding and criticizing and analyzing is in trouble, i think
Louisville and Lexington players paused the USL Championship season opener for 60 seconds after kickoff, letting the clock run without play. A fearless show of unity from the USL Players Association as negotiations reach a critical stage. Itβs time for the league to act. #StandUpForStandards
... celebrating terrible things because when it happens they're proved right. Because like so much of society the highest aspiration is to have been "right all along." I've run out of patience for such people. It's the same kind of selfishness we deride in the bad guys, just directed differently
People turn into doomers for understandable reasons. Holding onto hope and continually being confronted with The Horrors is a hard thing. If you always assume the worst you're never disappointed when it happens. But it seems almost unavoidable that such people also end up turning to outright...
Learning to solder was legit healing for me. My step dad tried to teach me when I was a kid but he was bad at it and was a shitty teacher but made me feel like a failure for not learning from him (he did this with car stuff too). Finally learning was a great feeling for me and I'm stoked for you!!!
Just casually reminding everyone that my book comes out in a few weeks, it REALLY helps if you preorder, and if you want a signed copy, you can get one shipped to you from Loyalty Books in DC ππ½
Yes absolutely. It gives them more power and less accountability
#OtD 5 Mar 1988 2,000 people took part in a demonstration through Leeds to protest against the homophobic Section 28 law which prohibited the so-called 'promotion of homosexuality' by local authorities and schools. It was eventually repealed in 2003 stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/1054...
I don't remember exactly, but to be honest I was probably nicer than I would be now
The guy who tried to win survivor by outing another contestant once sent my podcast a message on FB about why he did it and how sorry he was
Hate to link to substack but there are questions about whether the story in the above post has enough verifiability to be trusted. Not gonna delete the above, but think it's important to highlight the question:

The notion that politics is simply a team sport underlies so much of What Is Wrong
The inability to see the slightest complication kills me. Infuriating that people seem shocked by the idea that someone who is categorically evil might still hold some line that is good like "pedophilia is bad." We gotta stop making heroes of people for having a single obvious line they won't cross.
The absolute ghoulishness when the sum total of your politics is "I want catastrophically bad things for the bad guys." Inevitably you're enthusiastically cheering for things that are immensely worse for a massive shit ton of innocent people than they ever will be for the bad guys.
I found the longer speech, the whole speech is so heartfelt inappropriate now as well. youtu.be/HfXmpJRZPYI?...
The hole in the ozone layer was actually very serious and a global effort allowed it to recover. Y2K WAS actually a serious problem and people worked countless hours to make sure nobody even noticed. Air and water pollution was catastrophic in many places and incredible effort reversed that damage.

I don't care if Congress authorizes War on Iran. NO WAR ON IRAN. I want people to fucking reclaim their morality.
Reminder that @nora.zone and I are building a bot that will respond with Gavin Newsom Facts when people @ it BUT we need your help to populate it before we can launch. Fill out this form to add your favorite moment(s) in Newsom history.
Oof. I just read your post in the most uncharitable, pedantic way possible, and I gotta tell ya: it's not looking good for you.
Your opposition to war can just be that war is evil. it doesnβt have to be more complicated than that.
Call me a raving radical but I literally do not care whether your imperialist massacre of children is βconstitutionalβ or not.
I swear some of you will be saying βitβs a distractionβ as youβre personally lowered into a pit. More than one important thing can happen at a time. Also if you declare anyoneβs rights or the loss thereof a DISTRACTION you need to be slapped.
