Was THAAD ever planned to counter North Korea? I thought it was to counter China and wouldn’t be much use against North Korea.

It's frustrating that every take on this, even from left-wing accounts, has been calling this a betrayal of South Korea when there were many people in South Korea who fought against these being installed and rightly argued that it put Koreans in more danger and didn't protect them.

It's also worth noting that THAAD doesn't actually protect Koreans. Its primary aim is to stop missiles aimed at US bases and assets beyond Korea.

I hope the Korean people and others in Asia are taking notes on what the US is doing here and what it says about their own security agreements.
