I'm ready π₯³
Komusubi Wakamotoharu returns to sanyaku for the first time in six tournaments. 'I'm moving better than I thought,' the 32-year-old said after completing 9 practice bouts.
Ozeki Aonishiki will debut at the Ozeki rank at age 21, making him the youngest new Ozeki since Hakuho in 2006-05. He posted a 6-2 record in external practice against Komusubi Wakamotoharu and Maegashira Wakatakakage, admitting afterward that 'my body still isn't used to it.'
Yokozuna Onosato completed his first sparring session since withdrawing from the Kyushu Basho with a left shoulder injury, going 10-0 in practice. The milestone marks a critical step in his recovery timeline ahead of the tournament's January 11 start.
This Week in Sumo:
Yokozuna Hoshoryu enters the Hatsu Basho with dominant momentum, posting a 20-3 record in practice bouts against Maegashira Daieisho and Hiradoumi. The Mongolian Yokozuna received a presidential honor on Dec 29 and remains focused on securing his first title as Yokozuna.
