And now, a micro-talk on environmental storytelling.
And now, a micro-talk on environmental storytelling.
It's literally "food for babies." ๐
The AI-generated passages are perfunctory in their uniform sentence structure. Basically they're pablum, predigested for reader consumption. This is mostly because of how LLMs work, but I suppose it's also very much on-brand for the NYT.
I actually have a weird idea for a game about unreliable narrators, but even in that case, I want it to be deliberate and not because of some stochastic auto-generated shit.
I feel like Adobe is trying to establish an enduring legacy as the textbook case study for enshittification.
I'm not there so I can't assess the vibes, but among the GDC diaspora, there seems to be an undercurrent of wondering how GDC will change in 5 years. It has weathered various shifts in focus, and presumably Informa doesn't want to kill the golden goose, but devs need something more *accessible*.
Happy Mario Day (Marioโs 40th anniversary)
Just saw a skeet from a person saying sheโs looking for work with replies shut off. People should manage their social media interactions how they like, but that seems really silly to me. If youโre saying you want a job, maybe you could benefit from people telling you whoโs hiring?
I had to fix a laptop issue but I'm walking around GDC now.
I'm on assignment and particularly interested in talking to folks about what you think the future of the industry needs to look like from here. What's going on? How do we fix it?
If you're around and down for a 3-4 minute chat, plz DM.
hi, if you plan on flying anywhere the rest of this year, I would strongly recommend travel insurance because of possible cancellations and price increases due to oil prices and conflict in the Middle East
If you read the passages aloud in the most monotone voice you can muster, the stylistic differences are recognizable.
To be fair, not all human-authored writing is good, but that doesn't mean we should stop caring about it.
Truly good writing takes risks. It asks the reader to interpret both form and content. And sure, not all writing does this (nor should it necessarily), but LLMs generally won't even try, because why would they? That isn't how they're trained to construct sentences.

There's also an 80% chance your cat is thinking of food at any given time. ๐

So many awesome folks doing the #WhatAGameDevLooksLike thing this year! I'm not going to repost everything because it's a bit much, and I mostly don't post selfies, but you should definitely check out the hashtag. It's a nice reminder that the industry is diverse and this should be celebrated.
I'm excited to watch *other* people play it.
JC has pink and purple hair and is wearing sunglasses, a black sleeveless hoodie, and a silver necklace with a pizza charm on it. She is in front of a bunch of flowers that look like they are exploding out of her head. The sky is blue behind her.
This is #WhatAGameDevLooksLike! Iโm JC, Iโve been a gamedev for 10+ years in AAA/indie, and I am currently lead producer and (NEWLY MINTED) COO at my studio, @twirlbound.com! I love making cool stuff with cool people, developing sustainable career paths, and of course yelling (lovingly) about Jira โจ

I keep staring at this Magic Eye picture and it doesn't reveal anything.
here I solved it

No, but I have lit this candle.
has anyone ever actually blown a popsicle stand?
Someone just tell Informa to post this on all the fences. Sorted.
Sorry if I come off as angry at everything these days. I suspect that I'm publicly angry and privately supportive, and it has to do with my natural inclination to guard against strangers and protect my friends.
I saw a thing somewhere that implied a GDC pass wasn't required to use the space, which is maybe reassuring, but it still very much feels like a "we control your GDC experience" flex.
Into the Breach feels a lot closer to an input-randomness puzzle, which is why I think I resonate with it more than with other roguelikes. Of course, there's still output-randomness with things like rewards and unlockables, so the experience isn't entirely predictable.
BTW, the way that LLMs currently conduct "conversations" is that they resubmit the entire conversation history as the new prompt. This works for a while, but it means that long conversations are impractical at best, impossible at worst. To "lock in" any knowledge, you have to retrain the model.
