There's a whole other five-year mission between Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan. Am I the only one who wants to see the SNW designers' version of the '70s?
Post your favorite Lord of the Rings character. Wrong answers only.
Another day, another disgusting development involving AI.
At first I was amazed that they would mention the balloon decoy. Then I realized Final Frontier is a novel set while Robert April was in command of the Enterprise (and also features his wife Sarah as the ship's doctor), so it's already heavily referencing TAS.
A few years ago I was reading a Star Trek novel -- pretty sure it was Final Frontier by Diane Carey, so one of the best ones! -- and it mentioned the balloon decoy. It pointed out that it would take only a tiny amount of gas to inflate a balloon the size of the Enterprise in a vacuum.
Did cars in the 1920s really have enough headroom to wear that?
In retrospect, choosing a company name that evokes a shipwreck may have been tempting fate.
Starfleet's main design criterion is number of deltas per square foot.
A B&W photo of four US servicemen carrying an inflatable decoy tank during World War II.
It's like those balloon tanks the US Army used to inflate to fool the Nazis.
Wait, didn't Shatner also come out of the Stratford Festival?
You have to understand, Star Trek can make you feel good. They make you feel on top of the world. Then you pay the price. Before you know it, you're taking the Star Trek not to feel good, but to keep from feeling bad.
Hubble photos of galaxies NGC 4302 (left, edge-on) and NGC 4298 (right, seen from above the disk).
The wall in space isn't that implausible. The galaxy's basically a disk, about 3,000 light-years wide. If Nus could block that, Starfleet would need to exit through the Galactic Barrier and reenter someplace else to get around the wall. That would be really dangerous (especially for Espers).
Stop lying. No one believes you.
Scene from Star Trek: First Contact. A Borgified Starfleet crew member is grafting skin on Data's arm. While his face is gray, his hands are regular skin color.

I'm watching Star Trek: First Contact and it's really jumping out at me that they forgot to do make-up on the hands of this Borg extra. #NitpickersGuide
Well, I guess that's ok then -- I feel better about Jim's guesses than most other people's facts.
You didn't account for the variable mass of whales and water in your time re-entry program. Rookie mistake.
I'd rather see the end of Trek than see the property in the hands of fucking fascists.
Block AI Enhancements toggle in Firefox settings
I see the #Firefox "block AI" setting has arrived. It's clearly labeled and easy to find in Settings.
It would be even better if #AI were deactivated by default, but I give #Mozilla credit for listening to the criticism. It's still a million percent better than Google Chrome.
Looks like you can read it on Archive.org with a free account.
It's "fascinating" -- to coin a phrase -- how a certain cohort of Trekkies have this reaction whenever an episode challenges them to feel and deal with emotions.
Here's a little background music: "Our Town" by Aaron Copeland.
Picard spent his wilderness years after Mars writing history books. He probably wrote one about Kataan.
Being 40 rules, don't let anyone tell you different. :-)
Happy birthday!
Could I pitch you two Gorns on easy rider motorcycles and the caption says "Gorn to Be Wild"?
