graph showing Greenhouse gas emissions of Indonesian pulpwood production are primarily driven by the expansion and operation of plantations on peatlands

Peat subsidence in Indonesia’s productive pulpwood plantations released 76 million tonnes of CO₂-eq in 2024, roughly equal to Ireland’s total emissions in 2022.

Peat subsidence alone makes up about 95% of the sector’s land-use emissions.

graphs showing how Indonesia's pulp sector has grown over the past decade

⚠️ Corporate sustainability commitments like the NDPE aren’t enough to eliminate Indonesia’s pulp-driven deforestation.

Most deforestation in the sector is beyond companies’ NDPE policies, which cover only current supply chains, not future wood development.
