New Laigh Kirk, Kilmarnock, our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, was built in a classical rectangular style in 1802 by architect Robert Johnstone and joined with an earlier 17th century tower.
Further significant renovations took place in 1903-04 overseen by the firm of Andrew and Newlands.

The bell tower of the former Dumbarton Free Church mysteriously collapsed last week and had to be mechanically demolished.
The unlisted 116 year old Dumbarton landmark was sold at auction by the Free Church of Scotland in April last year.

The distinctive crown steeple of the former Strathbungo Parish Church of 1887 by McKissack and Rowan. It replaced an earlier church of 1839 by Charles Wilson and some of the original materials were used in the new building. It was converted to flats in 2006.

Lovely. Just having hot chocolate and toasted teacake on the way home from Edinburgh. Still seething about the council tax on our small abode there being raised to 400% from next month with little notice. Trying to coerce us into selling up.
On #InternationalWomensDay2026, remembering two brave physicians, Berta (nee Fraenkel) and Stefania Silberberg, who studied at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and who were killed in the Holocaust. Bertaβs three children also perished, along with many other relatives. #IWD2026
Plans approved to convert the historic Lemreway Parish Church in Lewis into a residential home.
The little coastal kirk was closed and marketed for sale in November 2024.

Reading surrounded by the smell of tropical plants & the sound of Glaswegian grannies saying "a like that wan so a dae" - a reminder that this space is free, accessible & open to all of us. I've always loved that.

With a costly vital repair project now entirely stalled at the B-listed Mount Florida Parish Church, in Glasgow, and the building looking increasingly forlorn, local residents are concerned about the future of this beloved historic landmark.

A Church of Scotland spokesperson confirmed that a planning application has been submitted so that the memorials could be retained as an "important part of local history in the area" and "to ensure that the organ will continue to be used and cherished as a valued musical instrument."

A Hamilton congregation is seeking the appropriate permissions to remove a stained glass window war memorial by the artist Douglas Hamilton, two brass war memorial plaques and the Forster & Andrews pipe organ from the historic Cadzow Parish Church, that sadly closed in November.
