The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality.

Both Chokyi Senge Rinpoche and Conservator Ann Shaftel agree that there will be no “cleaning” or repainting of the blessed, historic thangka treasures they will be stabilized only to enable them to be handled and hung safely in the traditional manner.

Exterior view of Armstrong Building, Newcastle University, red brick, neo-Gothic-ish architecture with many windows.
Newcastle University staff invited to a ‘Doodling for Wellbeing’ session (‘Let your pen dance across the page' in 'a perfect escape from the everyday hustle and bustle'. Invites sent on same day 153 academics were informed of their location in 'redundancy pools', with 38 redundancies planned. 1/2
I’m left thinking it’s yet another example of this misconception:
What you grew up with is “normal,” what you believe is “common sense,” you’re just trying to be “neutral.” It’s other people expressing different beliefs that are political. And they should stop, so you and your views are the default.
Do you listen to the 'for wales see wales' podcast? They offer insights. I think ep 26

But I could have the wrong episode
Watching this reminds us how much work @flintdibble.bsky.social has done to put facts and evidence into public discussions about Archaeology. I highly recommend it especially for the stragies at the end. And Not just because one of my tweets appear honestly!😉
Ok its silly of me, but watching @shaneorionwiechnik.bsky.social s videos almost makes me feel sad for the wood when it subsequently meets the saw! I am obviously happy an emotional wreck day!!!
This is the sadest of news. She was brilliant at making things happen and so resolute and kind in doing that. An inspiration.
This is such terrible news. Pieta was a friend & colleague - hugely talented & knowledgeable she wore her skills lightly, with generosity & fun.
Pieta got us free high-powered xrays of the Newark torc, lectures, came along to my talks etc.
She was lovely.
46 is just too young.
Way too young.
Have a read, only 5mins of your day and super picture of Holly Jones Amin and one of the Golden dragon museum's dragons.
I want to believe that senior managers don't understand the loss and harm happening. The alternative is that they don't care. You have been mighty, and you will continue to be mighty. As for the institution, I am less sure.
New guest blog for our museum emotions project from @jane-henderson.bsky.social on conservation work. Take a 👀👇

I would love to be planning next year's teaching with you. I am so sorry that you have left in the redundancy programme. Of course, I am not sure if I will have a job there either by the summer. There are plenty of emotions right there!
👀 Have a look, friends and colleagues.
I think there needs to be lots more conversations about emotional conservation.
Interesting piece features Helen McCracken on the protection of New Zealand heritage "A population is very attached to its cultural heritage, one of the first ways in which you can attack a community is to destroy what it values.

A complex tale of dignity, respect, and freedom of speech.
It is important not to say the wrong thing during challenging and difficult proposals in which some people will lose their jobs and other people will not.

Looks like a useful event and perhaps space for a conservator to contribute.
Would senior managers openly saying they "make it up as they go along" and in response to a colleague suffering through a forced merger asking what will count as success saying "we don't know what is enough" and then rushing through another merger between March & Sept count?
The UK university sector is on fire. This is happening virtually everywhere -- job cuts, hiring freezes, department closures, PhD funding programmes... full blown crisis
