Monster Rancher 1 & 2. Two PS1 games where you raise your monster tamagochi style that you summoned from real life CDs.
The best monster taming and monster collector games are those that would still exist in an alternative reality where Pokemon never existed.
If you never gave any of these games a chance for being “too different from Pokémon”, then you are one of the reasons Pokémon is so dominant in this sub-genre.
