One consequence of this is to infantilize government. When behavioural responses (drawn from a narrow historical literature) are presented as natural or inevitable (prevalent here now), it serves to weaken democratic agency at the expense of specific interests.

We already have comparably strong exit taxation (and it has expanded over time). A trailing tax would be an add-on, effectively extending the exit tax beyond the time-of-exit for X number of years.

Agreed, they should give me more space! I don't suggest a specific "recipe" but to take the exit tax example (or a trailing tax), that's obviously key to effectiveness (as is int'l info exchange)? But, it departs radically from the oft-used comparables from 1990s Denmark or 2022 Norway

Here as elsewhere, wealth tax debates revolve around taken-for-granted assumptions that are anything but. Capital flight is not a force of nature, revenue-raising is contingent; they depend on scope, enforcement, anti-avoidance, culture. The regulatory/institutional environment is *made not given*.

I do my best Captain Obvious impression with a "well, it depends" regarding the effectiveness of a proposed Danish wealth tax.

Estimates from UK and Netherlands suggest global revenues from the global minimum tax will be around 30% lower under the "side-by-side" agreement (US carve-out).

This is line with @taxobservatory.bsky.social modelling from 2024 of the temporary UTPR exemption, so seems a credible magnitude.

Det vi har misforstΓ₯et i Danmark er at man ikke bare kan diskutere en "formueskat". I andre lande fΓ₯r det sin egen nomenklatur. Buffett-skatten, Zuckerberg-skatten, Zucman-skatten, ultra-millionΓ¦r-skatten, oligark-skatten. Hvor er vi henne? Mette-skatten, Seier-skatten, Morten Skov-skatten? Nej vel?

Deloitte shake-up of international structure set to trigger UK leadership race Overhaul will bind operations in 80 countries across Europe and Middle East

The Big Four's loose legal network structures have, for a long time, helped the firms grow their global footprint and hedge against risks. But with increasing reputational pressure and investment needs, stronger hierarchical integration is well on the cards
