Call for papers deadline March 16:
Business Ethics in the 6ix is an annual workshop on business ethics at Toronto Metropolitan University.
This is year 10 and we have keynotes lined up by Lisa Herzog (Uni Groningen) and Joe Heath (U of T)

Given that my high school is over 500 years old, I expected to totally crush you on this. But disappointingly the best we can do is Georg Philipp Telemann and Anne Frank's dad.
This is a very sad take.
I think that's fair. But I also suspect that the norms regarding this are about to change.
Right. But what about the editor who sent this out for review? Are they a professional philosopher?

Four Aspects of Harmony
[today's blog post, link in thread]
What is it to harmonize with the world? Inspired by @vonkriegstein.bsky.social, I suggest:
1. Mental correspondence (e.g., knowing, achievements in tune with the world)
2. Positive attitudes (e.g., joy, approval, appreciation)

I submitted final revisions for a paper just a few weeks before Trump announced his first presidential run.
It features an example of him acting as a political donor. I really wish that example wasn't in there.
The logic, presumably, is that they need to fear you, so that the won't take liberties.
If you're of a purely transactional mindset yourself, this kinda makes sense.
Here's the 2020 paper. In it I wrote that well-being is constituted by "being attuned to, or at home in, the world" and that "being disoriented, ill-at-ease in, or hostile to the world makes life go poorly." But I never got around to talking about the bad life in detail.

New paper with Teresa Bruno: "Ill-Being as Dissonance".
A sort of companion piece to my 2020 paper "Well-Being as Harmony".
Teresa and I chart the territory of what an account of ill-being might look like.

personally would like to see every store show what part of the price increase is due to tariffs bc if these tariffs ever come down, i need to see that price go right back down
The epistemology of fascism is not cult-like, rigid dogmatism. It's "lol-nothing-matters, they're all a bunch of liars" cynicism. That is the mindset that will pliantly accept whatever authoritarian excesses Trump engages in, and both Trump and Elon are 100% aware of that.

Would it be possible to add that function to PhilJobs?
wouldn't you like to know.
Right, I'm aware of that function. But that doesn't help me in the (hypothetical) situation where I'm open to work almost everywhere but not in one or two specific places.

When searching the Philjobs.org database, is there a way to filter out jobs in specific countries?
Would be useful if, hypothetically, I didn't want to work in country X but there are lots of jobs posted in country X cluttering up my search results...
Mia san raus!

War auch so
Yeah, you can't just send people back to the states like that these days. If you really can't let her into the country, you have to make sure to send her home.
Just under a week left to submit a paper to Business Ethics in the 6ix.
Send me your papers!

Look at this Toronto. Look at it!
(I know I know it's the province of Ontario that mostly needs the memo)
There's no way I'm going to the US right now. Especially not for an academic conference.
I would definitely not go right now.
1. For the past thirty years I've had the best job in the world.
I've had the opportunity to follow my curiosity; explore the workings of nature and society; mentor students and junior colleagues in the same process; and teach generations of students about it all.
Gonna lose the next three then start another win streak.
Now I'm imagining a world in which all of Musk's horrible actions over the past years are part of a longterm plan to make conservatives buy EVs.
I have a feeling they won't tell you.
Pay attention to what JD Vance and Musk are saying to Europe. They are upset that Europe is not giving them full "free speech" rights in digital information. Translation: MAGA won in a swamp of disinformation, much of it on SM platforms like X. They want RW govts in Europe, using the same model.
