I completely agree - Kate is excellent. The story is so layered and complex and a classic example of hurt people hurting people. I share your fury.
4/ As some of you will know, I've spent 15 years reporting on conversion therapy, going undercover to expose it in Britain, getting the first therapist struck off for practicing it, and campaigning to get it banned - but this series has almost everything you need to know in one place. Jaw-dropping.
3/ The series begins today and each week a new episode is released. It's available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music or wherever you get your podcasts.
It was made by the incredible Kate Holland
This series will change - and save - lives.
2/ If you've ever wondered how someone ends up in conversion therapy, what happens during "treatment", and how it poisons them, then this podcast series has it all - and more.
'Atonement: The John Paulk Story' reveals how he ended up rising to the top - before being exposed.
🚨 A staggering podcast series begins today, telling the story of the conversion therapy movement through the former head of the gay "cure" industry.
'Atonement: The John Paulk Story' (which I worked on as a consultant), is the wild tale of the man who led Exodus International:
Back in the 1960s, my parents struggled to find a flat. No one wanted to rent to my Indian father. And they sure as hell didn’t want to rent to an interracial couple. It wasn’t unusual for them to be spat on. How great that times have changed, I used to think. How very, very wrong I was.
Happy publication day to the Two Roberts! Welcome back to the world, which loved you then almost forgot you and is now turning towards you again. My novel is a celebration of them and their bravery and brilliance, as artists, lovers, outsiders.

EXCL: Scammers stole the identity of a real doctor in Gaza to make money - exploiting public sympathy by crowdfunding + promoting it on social media.
I tracked down the real doctor who reported it to Instagram - but it wasn't taken down.
Now a warning to the public:

A great interview with @zackpolanski.bsky.social by @patrickstrudwick.bsky.social in @theipaper.com
"[We need] to tell more powerful stories about how migration benefits this country, and why the elites, the multimillionaires and billionaires, are the problem, and not blame some of the poorest.”
@zackpolanski.bsky.social on great form

Love this!
"An intriguing mix of confidence and humility...
But like the Reform leader, once the tape starts rolling, he certainly knows how to punch (verbally)."

This is a fascinating interview:
*I meant to say ‘should’ not ‘would’. He thinks we should welcome migrants and calls anti-immigration sentiment a “poison”. inews.co.uk/news/bullied...
I interviewed Zack Polanski, running to be Green Party leader. He reveals the violent homophobic bullying he endured, losing his friend in the Manchester Arena attack and how he thinks we would welcome migrants. Oh and he’s never drunk alcohol. His vice? Vegan chocolate.

What's the point of a state watchdog if it simply serves as a government poodle? And why continue with an equalities quango if it ignores marginalised groups while driving open toxic divisions? After the Salt Path scandal, here’s the memoir I’d read: white, straight, middle-class person in late middle age goes on epic odyssey of self-discovery only to realise that they are in fact hollow and soulless. And only miserable because they haven’t had enough trauma in their life to appreciate it.
Fully agree that trans writers need to be on staff across the media. As it happens, I’m not sure what my gender identity is, but that’s besides the point - mostly trans people are spoken *about* without the security of a job to write about themselves. Or to be able to influence in media orgs.
What has a year of Starmer and a Labour government done for LGBT people?

A modern media story:
Telegraph removed a story about a family who cancelled holidays due to VAT on private schools. The story was denounced as a media AI fail (the dad was "Al").
In fact, a real journalist had been deceived during a real interview. Old school.

Not nearly enough is being said about how incredible What It Feels Like For A Girl is. The writing, the performances. Best BBC drama in years + so many experiences that LGBTQ people have faced for decades with almost no recognition.
The scene where little Byron goes to the doctor almost broke me.
