Carney fans, rationalize away!
I'll get you started. *Technically* paying the $1 billion bill for a Norwegian company isn't handing them money directly, as such, per se, sensu stricto.

I had a decade-younger friend refer to Weird Al's "I Want A New Duck" (which parodies "I Want A New Drug" by Huey Lewis and the News) as a "deep cut", and I had to take a moment.
Semi-regular query to see if anyone else remembers CBC Vancouver's "The Dog and Trombone", written by Jurgen Gothe and Bill Phillips; and, more to the point, if they've got recordings of it, especially episode 5 featuring Hap Hafner's cousin Hugo?

I had another fantastically good day making use of Christchurch's excellent cycling infrastructure. My family and I biked over 30km today, all but a few blocks were on protected bike lanes or separated shared bike/pedestrian paths! We will all sleep very very well tonight.
Kinda like an AI summary except it's all researched and assembled and double-checked by actual humans, as a gift. Weird.
@grammargirl Every item advertised by Spatula City seems to be the one on the right, so that's definitive for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVrRfiG6C3E&t=3
As it seems to be Armchair General time for Iran, here's a few simple maps so we can pretend to know what we're talking about.
First of all, did you know? Iran is big. Like, this big.
This is absolutely bizarre, Iβve never seen anything like it, and I still donβt know what to make of it.

Two night images. On the left a small dark cloud blocks the Milky Way in a sky brightly lit by stars. On the right, clouds over a city are much brighter than the sky, which appears dark, drab, and empty of stars.
Most people in brightly lit countries probably take for granted that clouds are bright at night, but this is completely unnatural. You can see it better in this pair of photos we published in a later paper (titled "Red is the new black") [β¦]

Graphic shows Doug Ford smiling on the left. On the right, text explains how first-past-the-post allowed a party to win a majority with about 40% of the vote by focusing on GTA swing ridings, then cut OSAP with limited restraint and reduced scrutiny by shutting down Queenβs Park. It argues proportional representation would require real majority support before major policy changes and enable more stable long term planning.
When governments can ignore most voters and still win, they can ignore entire generations too. Students pay the price.
Proportional representation makes every vote count and every group harder to dismiss.
PSA: The Amazon wishlist doxing threat is much greater and more immediate than folks might realize. Attack works like this:
Stalker who wants your address opens an Amazon seller account and lists themselves as a third party seller for any item on your public wishlist. Then, they order the item [β¦]

If we want housing policy backed by a true majority of voters, our electoral system has to reflect majority will.
Electoral reform is not separate from housing reform. It shapes whether real solutions are even politically possible. 10/10
