On one hand, this feels like the plot of a bad Bond film.

I like when the writers care about their characters, and most of the characters are mostly kind & somewhat intelligent & either they or the writer says something funny or pithily at least sometimes. I can't swear I would read something written in 2nd-person and I'm dubious about 1st-person plural.
