Let me be clear. There will not be a budget with Glenn Youngkinβs Data Center tax breaks in it. Glenn drove up YOUR utility bills to give tax breaks to data centers. Strong as battleship steel, I will fight for affordability for the people and encourage Gov Spanberger to join me.
I beg to differ with anyone who says that itβs on me to meet to discuss this budget because I delivered a budget that makes life affordable by ending a tax giveaway to big tech. The Governor and Chairman Torian have drawn a red line!
The Virginia State Conference of the NAACP gets it- the data center tax credit is stealing billions of dollars from our communities who need the resources most. Thank you for your support!!
Gov. Spanberger thinks our chicken isnβt cooked- then what is the Senate supposed to pluck out of our budget? Raises for teachers, health insurance assistance, transit support, a tax rebate, or childcare slots? The Governor + House are worried about tax breaks to big corporations
One data center for one company can afford to pay $427 million dollars for land alone - but the entire industry says it doesnβt have the money to give back their tax break that costs Virginia schools one billion a year. I WILL NOT back down from this fight.
Yes I said it- our committee chairs need to grow a backbone and kill bills that they donβt feel worthy of passage instead of sending them all to me to kill for them.
One in four Virginians say they must decide each month between paying their grocery bills, energy bills or medical bills. We will not allow these hardworking Virginians to be put under even more hardship while data centers drive up their costs and demand tax breaks for doing so.
We are now a week into this fight over the data center tax break and I have yet to hear any coherent answer on why every small business in Virginia has to pay our sales and use tax but data centers should be excempt.
