(Should probably say I sit on some committees / working groups, especially with regards to games, as well as standing for the Membersβ Council this year)
I of course take a different view, but I always want to hear membersβ opinions on everything, especially what could be done better!
Thatβs partly down to games composers (in my view) tending to not be members of PROβs, something Iβve raised many times at meetings etc!
It was a water testing deal by nature, but I would suggest it was beneficial for any PRS member with music on a relevant game. For various reasons I think there will be a fair amount of pressure on Valve to get some sort of a deal in place!
It's generally understood the deal with Sony was made 'easier' due to them having a music arm previously, so their understanding of music licensing was already there when talks began.
I'd be quite sure it'll fall on the performance side of things in the EU - the difficulty is actually in the US it's not classed as a performance.
Yes but Valve would pay an overall license to PRS for music use, much the same way the BBC et al do. It wouldn't be on a per game basis and wouldn't be paid by the developers.
It's far more nuanced than that, also it's worth noting that there has been a deal in place with Sony for the PlayStation store for several years now which has been working fine.
Technically (certainly with the App Store in Europe), a download is classified as a performance rather than mechanicals.
Why would one cost 5% of the sale price? It's the platform holder that pays the license, not the game developers.
The Tascam DR-40 is pretty decent!
Think George wants a go on the Yocto!
Territory dependant of course...
Phil Collins only so far...
The AMS power tower is complete!
I'm starting to fill up my freelance calendar for next month onwards. Get in touch if you need an extremely experienced and adaptable freelance games developer.

Free markets and all thatβ¦
They really need to open an enquiry into the price gouging that currently exists, rather than fining parents. We personally donβt take our children out during term time, but know many who do and just take the fine.
Anyone in the market for an OTO Bam? I'm selling mine: reverb.com/uk/item/9416...

That's pretty shocking news, Native Instruments, one of the largest companies in music making software, is in preliminary insolvency.
This will have some serious ramifications for both users and employees
