When I joined as the head engineer of the Torment Nexus project, it was to work on fascinating technical problems and make the world a better place along the way. I am appalled to discover that the Torment Nexus would be used this way and, now that my options have vested, will be leaving the project

getting serious replies to my Travis Kelce jokes so here are the facts of the case:

has Kelce's play dropped off: yes

is Kelce good enough to keep playing in the NFL: also yes

should Kelce keep playing football after the world's wealthiest, most popular musician wrote a song about his penis: no

The gender ratio (when I last reported on this, like...7 years ago) was something like 120:100 in China, although it was coming down as basically everyone realised there were loads of hidden births and unregistered women in the countryside.

I think it's still a real social problem in China, at least. Exacerbated by the phenomenon of "Er Nai", wealthy men having multiple mistresses they fund in a semi-legal arrangement.

Single men are known as "bare branches" - Guang gun, or sometimes called "leftover men" and it's a whole thing.

Very productive evening, finishing the last (kinda) buildings for my Montcornet table ahead of HoL this sat. The townhall is a placeholder as the real town hall scratch build is delayed (I made it too large..). All are 3d prints that are reentered etc. Plus painted 30ft of latex road!

Occasionally I come across interesting AI use case & think "oh that's a good deployment of machine learning" eg a guy using it for making spreadsheets for his kickstarter fulfilment data.

Then I see an AI guy on linkedin saying he's just like a farmer because "soil automates the value in plants"

if there's one thing missing from modern gaming stuff for my palate it's the love and attention and creativity that goes into all of the immersive extras. scratchbuilding my own stuff is what got me started in making models for a living

show games like this ftw, boo to flat generic tables!

I think THE AUDIENCE prefers audio. The algorithm and the advertising prefers video

06.03.2026 21:52 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Basically I think a lot of people are going to run right off that cliff of the money bleeding out when the organic growth plateaus, and then they’ll fall like the coyote in roadrunner when the YouTube shifts the algo

06.03.2026 20:06 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I really think the audio industry has done an incredibly dumb Faustian pact with video because the discovery is better, but I am SURE:

a.) those platforms will turn on them because they always do;

b.) the organic growth from algorithmic video will not make up for the increased cost of production;

Saw a video podcast where the audio mix was just absolutely horrible.

Now, I am an audio guy, BUT I’m also a total philistine idiot who used to insist our engineers listen to things on a car speaker through Apple Podcasts at 1.5x speed (ie like a real audience).

So trust me, this was SHITTY.

(Hunger Games is *exactly* 100k words btw which feels like it was a target or max because it’s so dialled in)

06.03.2026 17:11 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I agree with Marie here and ALSO think a lot of fiction is just a touch too short because of these conventions.

90k max is where most genes sit now and thats shorter than the Hunger Games which is a *short* book.

Maybe you're too cool to be involved with model boats, but that probably means you've never seen a Russian submarine being chased by an angry Moorhen:)

If you need a timeline cleanse you should know that Dexter Sol Ansell who plays Egg on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms went to school as Egg for World Book Day.
