World Book Day was so special for me.
I went to two local primary schools & a nursery in Solihull to read my children's stories to little listeners. It was great to hear the children laugh & see them listening so attentively. ❤️ 📚

Asking questions about a topic BEFORE you introduce pupils to it, works.
Help pupils find the connections they already have to link with the new content, by asking pre-questions.

Here's a poem, for World Book Day, from my collection 'Snap!' which brings together lots of the stories that young children might know. A chance to have a bit of fun and remind themselves of them today!
I liked the idea to change it to a pajama day - because who doesnt love reading in their pajamas? Kids still get the heady excitement of a non-uniform day, but no costumes needed and the focus remains on the actual reading
I asked a child what World Book Day is about, they said dressing up.
The child was only little so it's easy to understand why they would think that. You're right the focus needs to be on the books, other stuff really distracts.
Bluesky is becoming a genuinely collegiate corner of the internet for education and adjacent professionals.
Less performative noise, more thoughtful challenge, shared learning and proper networking. It feels like a healthier staffroom after the bell.
Hope it keeps growing and deepening.

Such an important point. I think it's a long-held misconception about teachers 'clocking off' when the bell rings. The reality is very different. Another point is we can't accept it's part of the day job, we need to treasure teachers & look after them! I will listen to the episode fully, thank you!
